Just found out that I am going to be charged and EXTRA $250 Canadian or approximately 240$ US for my rifle by Swiss Air for my trip from Montreal to Cameroon. Also another $50 each way for the flight from Calgary to Montreal.I don't know if the other carriers do this or to how much they charge but it seems exorbitant since I don't think it really amounts to an extra expense in handing to them.Just seems they are being oportunists .If they keep this up I can see it affecting the big bore sales. People will just rent when they get there and save the hassle and expense.

Is that a recently imposed charge? If so, contact their customer service, and remind them that when you made your decision to fly Swiss, that charge was not in effect.

If they don't rescind the charge, use up a LOT of toilet paper, soap, and napkins on the flights.

Back in October when I flew over to RSA on Delta there was no charge for my gun case. But Delta does charge on domestic flights for every piece of checked luggage.

Good Hunting,

george,
Unfortunately I wasn't aware of this until I had already confirmed the booking. Wish my agent had been aware of it and informed me. This is something I think they should start becoming aware of before they book you.

Have to check if the charge is specifically for the gun, or for the extra luggage.

Many airlines have a "per piece" baggage allowance, especially on flights to and from Africa (if you could picture what many Africans are trying to load on an airplane when they are travelling, you'd understand the airlines...).

Last time I had an extra piece (not gun), it cost me 150 Euros, which is about $210.

This is becoming an increasing problem.

From the UK the cheap 'budget airlines' are cutting everything to the quick. Ryamair will not fly guns.

British Airways now charge £50 per gun per flight , wherever you go, so do Iberia.

American airlines will not fly guns to or from the UK.

When friends or clients with guns come to London I generally get them flying on Continental airlines, who are still abit easier and make no extra charges or restrictions.

Last June United charged us $150 each because our gun cases were over 50 lbs. Mine was 2 lbs over, my clients was 6 lbs over. SAA didn't charge us anything. However, when our guns didn't return with us and came the next day, they were forwarded to our home city and we had to pay $145 out of pocket to get them released by the carrier (Forward Air). My friend finally received a full refund ($145) from SAA and I am told mine will be forthcoming soon. A lot of hassle and I agree; they are gouging us on baggage. I just paid $50 each way with AA for my girlfriends one checked bag. I'm not a happy camper with the airlines, especially dealing with any flights that are domestic. I guess we're seeing CHANGE first hand.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
