Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am trying to put a few video clips for you to enjoy before we go off next month.

Then I come across the day we followed some buffalo, and found them about midday lying in the bush.

We managed to get very close, but, because of the bush and grass, all we could see was their horns.

So what do 3 experienced hunters do?

We decided to wake the buffalo up.
I got onto the shooting sticks, and got ready to shoot as they got up.

Alan was behind me with his video camera.
And Roy volunteered to throw the stones at the buffalo.

Trouble was, he had to get in front of me to do that.

He got himself a stone, and threw it at the buffalo. As soon as he did that, he put his fingers in his ears, and hit the ground, as I was going to shoot over his head.

The stone landed very close to the buffalo, the tick birds flew off, but the buffalo remained where they were.

The stone throwing was repeated a few more times. Once he actually landed the stone on one of the bulls.

He still repeated his throwing himself down with fingers in his ears, and looking with amazement back at me because I have not shot!

Trouble was, I was laughing so much I don't think I would have been able to hit anything.
Alan behind me was saying "what a bloody fiasco!"

The bulls got up and ran off, without offering us a shot.

We followed them for a while, and they stopped by some trees.

Luckily, there was an open area between us and them, and we were able to hide behind a tree, and wait for them to move, as buffalo normally do from one lying up area to another one.

As the bull we were after got up and walked through a clearing, I put one into his chest.
He took a few steps, and dropped.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Sadly, the video does not really show much, as the camera is zoomed onto the buffalo while this comedy was being enacted!

We had a friend with us, and afterwards he said "I could not believe it! You standing ready to shoot, with Roy crawling right front of you, then when he started throwing the stones, I thought to myself 'those guys are MAD!'"

Which begs the horrifying question: How bad would the bloody fiasco, have gotten, if Walter was there and allowed input?

Walter wanted to shoot a zebra.
Trouble was finding a Walterable zebra.

One morning, we saw some zebra feeding not far from the truck, and the wind was good.

I loaded my rifle, and handed it to Walter.

He went off with Alan and Roy, while my and Kiki stayed in the truck.

We waited until we heard the shot, which made us both smile.
We waited for Alan to turn up, to drive us to Walter and his zebra.

Alan did not come.

Almost an hour later, we heard another shot, quite far away.
"We thought, Oh boy! Walter must be in big trouble with Roy now"

We waited still longer. No one turned up.

Quite a while later, we heard a third shot, still further than the second.

I knew we won't hear any more shooting, as Walter had only three rounds in the gun.

Eventually, Alan came and drove us to where Roy, Walter and one dead zebra were waiting.

Apparently, the hunt went like this.

Roy "Can you see the stallion? He is the one behind the mare, looking to the left."

Walter "How can you see it is a stallion if he is behind the mare?"

"I know. Just keep your eye him, and when the mare moves or he moves shoot him"

The stallion became clear, and Walter clobbered him.

They all ran off, together with Walter's zebra.

The followed them , and followed them, and Walter was not able to get a shot at his wounded zebra.

Eventually he did, and broke the zebra's leg.

The zebra took off.

They followed it, eventually finding it standing in the open.

"I only have one bullet left"
"If you are going to miss, don't shoot then"
"What do I do then?"

"You have to shoot the zebra"
"What happens if I miss?"
"Don't miss! Or don't shoot!"

By this time Alan said he was laughing so much he could not stand up any more.

Walter did shoot, and he managed to kill the zebra.

Comedy never stops on our hunts!
