Every now and then someone comes with friends of their who are plainly selfish idiots.

As soon as they start asking me why I hunt, I just tell them it is no of their bloody business, and they should either shut up, or leave.

End of conversation.

Sometimes I get genuine questions, and I have no problems answering them.

But putting up with idiots I have no time for.

Years ago, I was home from college and my Mom and Dad were having a get-together with some of their friends just before Christmas. One of their friends came over to me and asked me why I hunted and why I enjoyed killing helpless animals. I had been down this road with her before and was in no mood to get into an argument with her, so I simply told her that the reason I like hunting is that I enjoy the sound of bullets striking flesh. The look on her face was priceless, and she never brought up the subject with me again. Some people will never be swayed, no matter what we say.

So purposely create another rabid anti from someone who was likely ambivalent before. I have them at my home occasionally as well for other issues. I simply choose not to engage them, why?

I won't win them over, so why go looking for a battle?

As I said above, she was not "ambivalent" and I did not create an anti. She was a rabid anti who had confronted me before and was looking for another fight. I was not going to disrupt my parents' Christmas party and there was no way she was ever going to be convinced. All I wanted was for her to stay out of my face, so I said what I knew would do that. She never tried to confront me again.
