I think the HR went downhill when it started taking advertisements. I understand the financial move, but one really can't post bad reports when that company or individual is a paying advertiser.

It was always clear to me that ripcord bought the HR.

I find the HR's coverage of the broader issues (import bans, Cecil the lion, etc) in safari hunting informative.

I never heard of HR before now but buried in some of these posts there seems to be a favorable impression by the readers. Perhaps I should check it a out. Sorry for the losses by both parties. I doubt that either party will get anything more though.

That is the great thing about this forum. No advertising, no pop ups and no drama. I have all of the latest spy wear and I still can not stop all of the cookies on forums like africahuntingl.com It is a total waste of time. Truly sorry about the passing of your husband.

As the past Chairman and EO of the Botswana Hunting assoc ( BWMA) we had a lot of dealings with Barbara Crown and the HR . At all times we found BC to be helpfull professional and committed , and to me the emphasis was on committed. I am really sad to hear of her financial situation and personal loss.
I can only hope Don will sit down and work it out with her as he is the founding father and the HR is his legacy , if he destroys her he destroys his legacy.
As hunters we are in the predicament we are in because we fail to support the good people and slow to out the bad apples. The HR for all its good or not so good has contributed to hunter education and information for a very long time providing a great service to the traveling hunter.
Largely the internet and hunting forums have eroded the HR's significance and it would have been great if BC had moved with the shift to internet based information but the HR still remaines one of the best sources for information on where to hunt and with whom. A lot of the questions asked on the AR can be quickly located in the HR data base.
Don and Barbara we hope you resolve this esp off the public platforms.

I am a subscriber and have been for a number of years including those when Don owned the periodical. I enjoy my monthly newsletter and read it diligently. I have booked some of their recommended trips and have been quite pleased with the results.

The HR does have an internet presence and host a website with a goldmine of old hunt reports you can sift through to check up on outfitters both domestically and internationally. They are not shy about disclosing the good and the bad and they do allow rebuttals by the offended party. That reference material alone is worth the roughly $100 a year I pay for the service. Many of the articles Kathi Klimes posts here are from the HR...

The purchase of HR by Ripcord was fully disclosed a number of months ago in Barbara's editorial section. It hasn't had a big effect on the content other than the obvious, which are more adverts for Ripcord and they feature a piece on travel on occasion which is informative.

I have met Barbara and she is a very cordial and welcoming woman who is attuned to the hunting community. I wish her all the best in the future.

As to this thread, I find it distasteful personally, hearing what Barbara has gone through. I understand Don's disappointment in not getting fully paid for his asset but in a free market system, these situations happen more frequently than we care to imagine. The internet jury is quick to judge and often with few or incomplete facts. I echo Graham's sentiments above.

Just my $.02...

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

You all know my opinion on suicide.

It is a mess, but Causey can regain ownership, if he pursues this thru legal channels.

I am very sad for Barbara, I cannot imagine the hell she has been going thru personally and business related.

God Bless you, and our best wishes to make this work...

Rich
