KARL SAID"Saeed, it is definitely NOT the DSC Rebecca and I joined 20 years ago and devoted thousands of hours and lots of dollars to help the club become one of the premier " Yep. I remember you hobbling around the foor. As not a big name game booth, you still stopped by my booth, talked with me a bit and asked did i need help with anything. Good people helping like that makes a good club. With the new folks direction i now understand the Christmas poem where "I rushed to the window and threw up the sash".

Jerry, I do remember hobbling around on a knee walker and I remember visiting with you. There are still some good people doing the right thing , just not directing the club, I’m afraid. I really hope you are doing well, and I do try to keep the sharp end pointed away! Thanks! Karl Evans

Got a message from one of our members. Basically saying SCI was started on the promise of self glorifications. Some members were not too impressed, so they started their own club. DSC. Had a great time growing, and basically was what a hunting club should be. Then it was taken over by a new self glorifying lot! And just look where it is going??!! SCI has been in sort of turmoil for years. Each time they get a new president, the promise was it will get better. Never worked. Because the basic design was wrong from day one!

I was going to post a similar photo of the Sash crowd I received from a friend but won't since it's already been posted. One thing I do want to say is we should encourage my buddy, Dave Fulson, to come back on AR and give some insight to the DSC leadership change and debacle that followed. Dave tried to give us some inner workings commentary a while back and got criticized pretty strongly. I think some thought he was part of the new leadership group but in speaking with him recently, Dave tells me the reason Safari Classics lost the DSC gig is because he and Tim fought and strongly disagreed with the new leadership's change in direction. I'm just a hunter that enjoys the shows. I don't have knowledge of the organization's politics like Dave and Karl, but I hate to hear that the DSC show failed as badly as it did. Lots of outfitters and exhibitors went a long way to participate only to be completely let down. Yes, weather was a major factor. It's the reason I wasn't able to get there. That said, the weather isn't 100% to blame. I remember when the announcement was made and all the non-Dallas area folks telling us how great the move would be for the club. I was dubious. My position, and I still believe it to be so, is DSC is a more regional organization and less able to benefit from a move out of the area. With the weather we had this past weekend, folks like myself, would have missed 1 day of the show due to icy roads, but we'd have been there other days. I suspect the vast majority of past DSC attendees, being somewhat local, would have been able to make the drive as well. At this point, I'd normally say YMMV, BUT, maybe not!

They should have hired me, Karl We cancelled at the last minute due to the WX situation and other personal issues. To this day I am convinced DSC could have pulled this off in Dallas. I hope they can recover. The convention was one of the highlights of our calendar. We miss it. As an aside and a different view, my son went to the show with some local guys and they loved it. They said it was great, no issues and hope it stays in ATL. He had attended in Dallas a couple of times and said he liked ATL better.

Almost All trade organizations have a life cycle. 1) Honeymoon Phase: Customers and Vendors are enamored with the collection of new concentrations. Relationships expand and opportunities with them. 2) Work Phase: Everyone sees the value the organization brings, there is much work to be done and many people to do it. 3) Contentment phase: The organization has survived what was viewed as the "hard years" (Little do they know). the workers start jockeying for position and the benefit it brings. The parasitic settle in and the workers that are there for the "right reasons" drift away. 4) Invasion Phase: The parasites infestation becomes less organic and more aggressive. It is usually highlighted by favoritism, compulsion of the membership, bloating of bureaucracies. Members are pushed to give more (usually because of some perceived threat or moral high ground) yet they start to feel they are receiving less value. 5) Peak Infection Phase: There is a clear bifurcation of the membership. Members are paying/working/giving more yet receiving less value. A few "board/committee heads" are clearly exercising control, extracting advantage and consolidating their positions. 6) Control Phase: The minority that continues to extract max value from the organization begins threatening the membership that actually supports the organization and keeps it alive. Positions or opportunities will be forfeited if the dissenting member doesn't comply. Members will be pushed to signed binding contracts. The organization will become less willing to proceed on its own merit. Members will begin trying to quantify what value they receive for their investment. They will soon learn that the only downside to failing to participate is the conspicuousness of their absence. The benefiting parasites will twist and leverage this fear. 7) Terminal Phase: This is when the organization can no longer support itself under the weight of corruption and selfishness. Unfortunately, it is the last opportunity those that truly care about is have to do some good. The best response is to walk away (sometimes for years), allow it to collapse under its weight, the parasites to scurry off to look for meals elsewhere then pick up the pieces and rebuild (to start the cycle again).

Good post, Gibbs. I've been a life member since 2007 and can identify exactly when these kinds of actions took place. To me, one of the most telling ones was when they kicked members out of the Omni and instead gave all the vendors first priority on reservations... So very accurate. I did ~10-11 years on the BOD of the Phoenix Chapter SCI. In the begging, it was fun and all the board members were fun, helpful and knew countless people in the community. Our fundraisers were insanely profitable and very well attended. The donations from the multitude of long held personal relationships was priceless. As new guys came around, the award type guys, things changed. They had contacts with SCI national that was just down the road, in Tucson. The pollution began, long time members left, the fundraisers flailed and soon SCI stepped in to combine the old Chapter with another start-up, competing chapter. I’ve completely lost touch with anyone and can’t comment on the current standing, but your timeline is accurate. Formerly "Nganga"

I’ve spoken to or messaged several DSC exhibitors, vast majority said their show was a bust, some said they got a few bookings, one large exhibitor said they did less business during the show than they normally did in the first day in Dallas, said they aren’t going back, one exhibitor said he did exceptionally well, PWT, (Gracy Travel had a booth at TTHA that was busy as well). I was told by one group that DSC told them that DSC told the group that they, too, are in this mess and it’s not their fault and that all of the liars are gone from positions of power. Total bullshit! They are trying to play victim, and they still stand by the lie that they had to move because of construction! There is more, too. A few years ago the powers that be dropped PHASA support and backed the Custodians, SA. I thought it was OK to support Custodians, but think they should’ve kept supporting PHASA as well, got ignored. Now, they are trying to repair relations with PHASA and the Custodians seem to be fading away. Mostly same bunch of people that are responsible for the Atlanta mess. Karl Evans

Why did they move? Why did they choose Atlanta?

I was told that there was no where in Texas that could accommodate a show the size of DSC and Atlanta provided the best venue with the best air connections, and could give the preferred dates. They story line was that the convention center in Dallas was going to be torn down (partly true) and that DSC “had” to move because there would be no way for exhibitors to move in, which wasn’t and still isn’t true, DSC is not the only group that uses the convention center and trucks still have to have access to the loading docks. Good Morning Christophe - I'm happy that you had a great show. I think that your offering is so very specialized that people come to specifically speak to you, about very specific hunts. For the "General bag Safari" guys, people probably come and tend to shop around more. It's the reason I never do shows anymore. If I have specific desire, I go and speak to that person directly, like I would with you. Point being, In my opinion, for a specialist such as yourself, It may not matter where the show is. But just walking around to see what strikes my fancy, no interest anymore. The shows all look the same, feel the same. Formerly "Nganga"

The last time Atlanta saw measurable snowfall was on December 26, 2022, when a winter storm brought 0.1 inches of snow to parts of the metro area. Before that, the city experienced a light dusting in 2018 Friday was three inches of wet snow and some ice as well. Roads were tough, especially for people not used to snow and thousands of flights were cancelled. Even though it affected us as well, to be fair it is not possible to make any judgements about the show due to the weather event. I will say from attending other shows there that the layout of that convention center sucks. You have to make your way past three floors of meeting rooms to get to the convention floor. It should be the other way around.

We’ve had ice storms, snow storms, freezing temperatures, and also nearly tropical temperatures in Dallas for the convention over the years. There always seemed to be a decent turnout. Shoot, I forgot we had sub freezing temperatures, snow, icy overpasses, also DFW ran out of de-icing solution for their runways and ordered a stop down, yet the show here did well for the first time. Last years DSC was my first show and I had a great time. I really liked the vibe and as a guy new to Safari shows (but not trade shows) I felt very welcomed by 90% of the vendors and I was not going to book a hunt. Booked my hunt a few months later and I was really looking forward to talk to some vendors and look at fishing trips for my son and I but sounds like I got lucky that Delta cancelled my flight with 12 hours notice. I am going to SCI instead if the weather holds out and from there will decide what I go see in 2026

I live in Atlanta and wasn't able to make the show due to either work or weather. But if it hadn't been for this board or another, I wouldn't have even known about the show. There was absolutely no local marketing done by DSC while on the other hand, both the Boat Show and the Travel Show was widely marketed locally.

Fantastic! DEI in action now they have included a woman too! And before anyone starts screaming, I have absolutely nothing against women. I love them a ,lot more than I do men! But, taking how this organization has been sliding down the drain, I suspect DEI was brought in!

I started out with SCI in 1999 as a life member. I did not know about DSC at the time. However I was treated very rudely at a SCI registration. I told them that they could go to hell. I then joined DSC and attended the convention for some 15 years or so. I fondly remember when AR members booked at a hotel and it was real nice to place a face with the "handles". When DSC moved to Atlanta I would not go and SCI is very pricy and probably still rude. So, I am not attending either convention.
