Had to keep this short because of a slow connection but here is a short clip of a side brain shot bull a fellow from Austin took while hunting the Jovarega camp of Johan Calitz last week. http://www.fulldrawoutdoormedia.com/Video/Blake-Byram-elephant-web.wmv ![]() ![]() Haven't heard the official weight as of yet but we figure somewhere in the 50lb range for this bull. We also hunted plains game and a leopard but was unsuccessful on the kitty. We left and they are still baiting, will charter back in if they get one feeding. I wish I had more time for a more detailed report but my plans for a good Internet connection this year in Africa failed miserably to say the least. When I get home in Sept I'll post more pics and video. Hope you enjoy.

Excellent video and a nice bull! On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died. Tyge, Surely that bull required a finisher. Noticed when he dropped that he seemed more stunned than killed outright because the back legs did not collapse first as usual with a brain shot. Then checked the video out half a dozen times. Appears that the shot was above the brain. Note the puff of dust. Can you clarify? Mighty exciting indeed, must have been 30 yards at most. Regards, Tim

He was going nowhere when we got to him, couldn't move but still breathing. Yes, a finshing shot was required.

Nice. Like the fact that when played, the vid isn't pixelated. Ditto on what the hunter used on the hunt. Once again, nicely done. ![]() ![]() Lo do they call to me, They bid me take my place among them in the Halls of Valhalla, Where the brave may live forever.

The gun was a 470 Nitro Express but I'm not sure of the make. All I know is that it's a Spanish gun that cost a whole lot more than I make in a year of filming this stuff! Ammo was Federal Sledgehammers I believe. Interesting enough, when the spent case was inspected afterwards the case head almost separated, or at least it appeared that way to me. A PH in camp had told us of a client who had a case head separation from the same ammo earlier in the season. I'll take some pics of the case and show you what I mean to see what you guys think.

I use a Canon XL2 for my main camera and a GL2 for backup/wide angle shots. This clip was filmed on the XL2. Trophy shots are from my Canon Rebel XTi and a 17-85mm IS lens.

Tyge, Nice piece of action video. How did you get the client to look like he just left for the office? All my pics make me look a lot more rumpled. Mark MARK H. Believe me, I have taken my fair share of those type of photos as well, Mark. It's easy to have a client look this fresh. Just bust a jumbo at last light late in the day and come back the next morning for the photo shoot after the hyenas have ripped open the belly making the whole scene a mess. It took us an hour to turn the bull over and clean him up enough for some quality pics. I'll never again let a PH tell me everything will be alright, don't worry nothing will mess with it. From now on I'll shoot as many pics as I want the night we drop the animal. LOL Here's a rumpled clothing pic taken just after the bull was down. ![]()

I was wondering how tough it was to flip the beast over for the pics the next day! ![]() ![]() (edited)..I was initially wondering if someone did one of those annoying "mirror image" flips...(which clearly doesn't look to be the case based on the part in the hunter's hair and the fact you can see his wedding wring on the same hand in both pics) Cheers, Canuck
