I just got my tusks back today from a hunt in Zimbabwe and naturally I am happy they are in my hands after all that is going on. Unfortunately, some knucklehead in Zimbabwe decided to write on the ivory itself in black and red permanent marker! You've got to wonder what goes through their minds. Anyway, my taxidermist was actually at a loss as to the best way to remove this. He recommended a solvent (but that may whiten the ivory), or even light sanding. Naturally I'm reluctant to do either if there is an alternative. Anyone have this same experience and have a suggestion for me? Thanks. Go onto Taxidermy net and ask there mate. Lots of very good taxidermists hang out there and I'd be surprised is they haven't seen this before. ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

The old trick at the office works. If someone has used a Permanent marker by mistake on a white board, just use a whiteboard marker and write on top of it. Then wipe it off! I hope it does not "clean" the ivory. "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

Thanks for all the advice. I'll start with the alcohol and try that first. "I envy not him that eats better meat than I do; nor him that is richer, or that wears better clothes than I do; I envy him, and him only, that kills bigger deer than I do." Izaak Walton (modified)
