A new chain of Chinese restaurants…
Saeed, we may need to get Walter involved in this…

At then end of my time here, I want to come skidding through the Pearly Gates & hear God say, "Whoa Boy, that was a hell of a ride!"
In reply too the first question,
They will be killed , for they will have no value
Ant that is the biggest disgrace of all,
As all hunters that stood on the side and threw rocks , strengthened the anti's that they have succeded in this
AND THEN WHAT WILL THEY TARGET NEXT, AND ONCE AGAIN THE ENEMY WITHIN WILL SINK THE NEXT ANIMAL IN LINE,
Only question what will it be , roan, rhino, sable ??
Southern Africa is Ranch hunting, get the idea grow up and leave it if you do not like it
BUT STOP THE BASHING , TEXAS IS FULL OF HIGH FENCES AND NO ONE IS STOPPING THAT !!!!!!!!

I've eaten meat from the mountain lion, African lion, bobcat and bear I've killed. Cat is good -- the bear were too greasy for my taste.
I draw the line on tasting meat from members of the dog family, but some people claim it's good, too.
As for Peking duck (they now call it Beijing duck), the best I've eaten was in what was purported to be the restaurant where it originated in that city.

Die Ou JagterBill, you are correct, but I did have some good bear it was in BBQ sauce and pulled like pork. I have never had bobcat but Leopard was excellent.
I fixed Mt Lion on the charcoal grill for mothers day back in 1999 and all the ladies loved it. They said it reminded them of veal.
03 April 2010, 23:25
shakariGuys,
I've got no idea about bear & mountain lion meat etc but I'd strongly advise against eating any meat from any African predator.
They eat all kinds of shit in all stages of decay and can carry all kinds of seriously nasty infections and parasites etc. Some of which may not become evident for very long periods...... but can seriously stuff you up.
04 April 2010, 03:07
Oryxhunter1983The eating of mountain lions is very dangerous. They often have trichinosis, the same parasite worm found in raw pork. There have been a few cases of people eating cougar jerky and getting infected. I would never eat any carnivore...truthfully unless you were starving there's no reason to.

MARK H. YOUNGGuys,
I swear to God that I hear some of the nuttiest shit on AR almost daily. Sadie and I have eaten black bear (well cooked), cougar (delicious tenderloins), lion (like lean pork) and the best of all leopard. We don't eat this meat because we want to prove something but because it is excellent fare. If you guys are not trying these things you've missed some gourmet eats.

jdollarANY meat that is WELL cooked will not have viable parasites and bacteria acquired via feeding is killed by stomach acid and doesn't make it to the meat. even if it did, again, cooking destroys it. if it didn't, no one would survive the salmonella that is prevalent in raw chicken.

RW TaylorI agree with the crazy shit comment, I mean have you ever seen a hog eat?, A catfish? give me a break. Parasites, bacteria, in any meat, predator, grazer et al, if cooked properly is no worry. If you like it eat it, just wash our hands and keep it (the meat) as clean as possible and cook it properly, you will be fine.
04 April 2010, 08:36
zhabaYou guy's are out of control

As much as I have had a laugh at the stupidity I was asking a really question because one of you managed to go down the road i was think in that they will be destroyed which is criminal

04 April 2010, 13:41
shakariI'll leave you blokes to eat the predator meat if you're comfortable with it.... but I sure as hell won't and I'll stick with the Peking duck instead.
As for the possible problems involved in eating it, I'll leave it to others more qualified to explain the risks involved or you can always do a Google search on it..... whatever you do, is nothing to do with me.
Zhaba
On a more serious note, unless the captive bred lions can be sold to someone like the Chinese (and I reckon that'd be a good option for all concerned) then in reality you can expect some to be introduced as ringers into other areas (which is already happening) and the rest to be put down. This:
http://www.shakariconnection.c...-and-wild-lions.html might help explain how that little con works.
The fact is that pride dynamics mean if there were an attempt to introduce them into wild areas, it'd mean more would probably die than were introduced and the vast majority of smaller areas that don't currently have lions either couldn't afford to maintain the population or they wouldn't be wanted there.
As I see it, whilst it's a shame they have to be put down, I'd rather see that than the travesty of canned shooting continuing and it's a problem created by the breeders and they should be the ones to have to deal with the consequences of their actions.
04 April 2010, 16:50
Die Ou JagterPeople People, don't argue with Steve you can't win, he (thinks) he walks on water.
04 April 2010, 17:44
shakariDefinitely can't walk on water

but do have 30 years experience of African hunting and the bush - and can read.
A quick look through just one book published by the South African Veterinary Association lists the following as may be carried by lions and/or leopards:
68 different parasites. Plus:
Botulism
Bacterial pneumonia
Tuberculosis
Blastomycosis
Anthrax
Canine Distemper
Feline paneukopenia
Feline Herpesvirus
Feline peretonitis
Feline immunodeficiency virus
Cowpox
Coccidiosis
Hepatozoon
Toxoplasmosis
Osteodystrophy
Rabies
That's just from a few minutes looking at just one book and hardly nutty shit.
I'm sure concentrated research would produce considerably more. Whilst not all may be communicated to man, some/many can. Some may take a considerable time to show any effects...... but believe me, some of these things can seriously stuff you up and the trichinosis that Oryxhunter mentioned most certainly can. See here:
http://www.answers.com/topic/trichinosisAs for the theory of cooking the meat properly killing everything. I've no idea if that's true or not because I'm not a vet and therefore don't know enough about the diseases and parasites etc..... but firstly, I personally wouldn't be prepared to bet my health on it and secondly, I suggest those that have eaten the meat, think back about whether the meat was really well cooked and dry or was it slightly rare and therefore more tender and tasty...... with the exception of chicken, most meat in a hunting camp usually tends to be slightly undercooked rather than overcooked.
What other people eat is entirely up to them but I suggest they consider the risks and implications before they do eat it and if they've eaten it in the past, I'd suggest a proper post safari health check to make sure they haven't picked anything nasty up.
Personally, I'll opt for the Peking duck.
