I saw 500 Nitro’s post in Outfitters forum for what looks like a screaming deal, I can’t do it next year but it got me thinking –
My son has hinted that an African Safari for his high school graduation present in 4 years would be a great father-son trip (hell, all I dreamed of was a new shotgun)
What would be your suggestion for a budget conscious father-son Safari? (+/- $5K per person, not factoring in inflation)
a. Location
b. Which 4 game specifies (would do mostly European mounts for trophies)

L. David KeithAbob, with 4 years out I wouldn't put too much effort into the details because a lot can change in 1 year, let alone 4. Do your homework and get your Son involved with it. Great time to do the Father/Son thing. About 2 years out start getting your short list together and book it 1 to 1.5 years in advance. I'd say there won't be any problem to get a quality hunt for the two of you for your budget. I've booked a number of them and recently had a scenario exactly like yours. Son used a rifle, Father used archery equipment. Both returned with trophies and described it as the trip of a lifetime. I suggested wait until their next trip to decide that.

dogcatTollie' African Safaris in the Eastern Cape. I took my sons and we had a super time for your price range. You will have kudu, black wildebeast, blue wildebeast, nyala, springbok, duikers, steenbok, warthogs, impala and others available.

SBTWhile I would greatly prefer a free range hunt, it sounds like Namibia may be your best bet.
For the Father: Kudu, Oryx, Eland, Zebra
For the Son: Kudu, Oryx, Warthog then opportunity between hartebeast and wildebeast

cable68I'd agree on Namibia as a great destination for a father/son destination.
Kudu, oryx, zebra (esp mountain zebra in Namibia), would be generic suggestions, and if in Namibia a springbok would be a must.

namibiahunterI can't think of a better present for my sons than to hunt with them in Africa. The very best hunts I have ever had in my life were with my young sons.
