For 2011, we confirmed and paid for my daughter's Matetsi 3 hunt with Ross Johnson as her P.H. (Lou Hallamore, of course, for me). She'll be after a buffalo and a kudu and I'll do my usual tuskless. And, I'll continue supporting the booze cruise industry in Vic Falls. Big Grin

I made the big plunge and put down my deposit for an elephant in Botswana with Ivan Carter at one of Johan Calitz's concessions for June of 2013.

Dang if another AR guy wasn't sitting there listening to Ivan and me talk. He'd never even seriously considered an elephant hunt. I could see him squirming some. To my surprise, he asked if I'd mind sharing a camp with him if he could talk his wife into it (which took two seconds). He's a joy to hunt with (we shared a Selous camp before) and I'm in love with his pretty wife, so I encouraged them to join me. I think their deposit will be forthcoming this week. We're going to get us some big elephants!

Most importantly, lots of ladies who are non-hunters encouraged Sandy, my girlfriend, to go to Africa, at least for a trip to Capetown, Ngorongoro, Victoria Falls and a game park or two. Ya'll convinced her that her conception of what to expect (safety, comfort, blood sport, etc.) was skewed and an non-hunter can have the time of her life.

The jewelry I bought Sandy and Emmy didn't hurt, either, come to think of it. Roll Eyes

Thanks again.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

Buffalo and elephant with Lou Hallamore for me, Dr. Scott booked a hunt with Clive Hallamore, both with HHK and I'm sure he will post what he booked. Thanks to each and every AR member that attended our convention (which was very successful), I'm sorry I did not get to meet more of you and I hope you enjoyed your get together at Papasitos. I'll try to meet more of you next year!

Mine is "just" a tuskless (HHK) right now but may be more by the time the hunt rolls around depending on the economy.

Your daughter will be in excellent hands with Ross! We have spent some time with Ross in the field and we had a great time with some buffalo. Also spent some time there in Dallas with Ross and Graham and looking at some late season bulls later this year.

Had a great time with Kwan and Karl S, when they get done at SCI I am going to see how many buffalo Kwan has left on quota and make a plan to go clean'em out with him while I am there in June!

By golly, I might just get some good buff shooting in this year, about due since I missed the entire 2010 season and I am about to go nuts to shoot some buffalo!

Paid some on my 2011 and 2012 hunts with ZH to round out my big four.

Started the discussion, albeit very preliminary, for 29 day big four in 2014. I cannot think of a better way to ring in one's 40th birthday.

Met the PH for my plains game hunt with Somerby Safari in SA this year. Left a check with Drom to at least cover the daily and the first shot. Only things left to do is practice, practice off sticks, and pack.

Firmed up my 2nd Ele hunt in a row with Karl Stumpfe up in the Caprivi. Last year's hunt was about my best ever. Hunting your first Elephant has the same dangers as hunting your first time in Africa....everything after that pales by comparison.

Booked a coastal blackbear for my wife and I with Parger guide service. Neither one of us have ever hunted anything much bigger than a West Texas whitetail so it should be a good time. Thanks to Mark Young for answering all of our questions, and hopefully we'll be headed to Africa in the next couple of years.

Bought at auction and booked a Peacock Bass fishing trip for two down on the Amazon.

Judge,
Not knowing Sandy I can't say for sure but my wife is a non-hunter and she's gone to Africa with me several times and she has loved it. We specifically plan for her so she'll enjoy her time there. She doesn't go to the real remote camps when I go just because the only thing to there is hunt and she's just not into that. I'm sure you guys will work it out and she'll have a great experience.
I didn't make Dallas, I'm doing Reno.

Still kicking tires... Zambeze Delta in Moz was booked for the dates we had planned but lining up for 2012, maybe ibex maybe bear, maybe late season special for '11.

Fortunately, I went back on Sunday for a couple of hours until the snow and ice turned us into geese and we headed South. Stopped by Doug Turnbull's booth and shot the breeze with him for awhile and ended up taking possession of one of his Grade 1 .475 Turnbull '86 Winchesters! The more I handled the rifle the more I liked it! Made me feel like a kid again (hard to do at 52!) so what the heck, would make a great bison, bear and Aussie buff gun!

I already had 2011 in the bag and was going to look for something different for 2012. I live within 90 miles of Dallas so I was going to go up on Sunday then fly out Sunday night to Atlanta on business. The weather caused the Atlanta meeting to cancel and the ice forcast scared me off. Seems like the DSC weekend always has a bit of really cold weather to deal with. Thinking about taking my son over for his first africa experience, he isn't real fond of long plane rides or he would have already gone....He is out of college s and is a good hunter so lots of great options through our friends here that post on AR.

I thought there was one on auction that went for a pretty good price but that could have been for Lord Derby. My memory is a bit hazy as I was having a good time most nights.

Buffalo Hunt

At Fridays nights dinner I purchased a ten day buffalo hunt with Pelandaba Huntinng Safaris. The hunt concession is in the South East Limpopo River Valley and adjoins the Kruger National Forest.

One of the owners, Aubrey Kent post on AR.

My other two Africian trips have been for plains game in Namibia so I'm green at this buffalo hunting.

Needs suggestions:

When is the best time of year to hunt this area for buffalo?

Anyone had experience hunting with Aubrey Kent?

What other trophy's would you focus on in this are?

Your feedback is appreciated.

Tom
