One of our members sent me copies of a brochure from both Out of Africa and Wild Africa.

It seems many of the people are the same??

Not sure what the connection might be.

It could be that these employees have started their own safari company.

Or it could be the same lot have just changed company name.

Any information would be appreciated for the benefit of the members.

'The Rhino killing saga...'

Tielman Erasmus is one of the PH's caught together with Dawie Groenewald (Out of Africa) in SA for poaching Rhino.

I looked at the website and other than this guy Erasmus mentioned earlier I do not see any names that I recognize. I knew these people in the old days Dawie, Janneman, and Jannemans wife Theresa. I only knew them because they were big time partiers and I never wanted to hunt with them and am glad that I did not. They were at all the local SCI banquets. I just never felt they were really professional. I agree completely that they should all be avoided and I am surprised if Dawie can even be associated yet he might be behind the scenes.

It goes much further than that in this case.

SCI Top Shot was their bloody lawyer!

I bet he deflected all the negatives away from them until USFW arrested one of them.

SCI did not have much of a choice left then!

I am getting information that is quite disturbing on this subject.

By the looks of things, SCI has not learnt anything from their past connections to shady outfitters like Out of Africa.

It seems certain SCI chapters, as well as some Top SCI individuals, are in the thick of this disgusting episode of crooked operations in South Africa.

The more I hear about this, the more I am convinced there is nothing further than the truth than SCI claim of being FIRST FOR HUNTERS!

It should be changed for FIRST TO GLORIFY OURSELVES AT ANY COST!

My first year in SCI at our local banguet Out of Africa was there and I talked to them but did not like them very much. They donated a hunt for the auction and with the nightmare hunt that the person who bought it had they were never allowed to return to our local chapter.

Matt,

I call things as I see them.

Look at Wild Africa website, you will see the same individuals who were running Out of Africa - including an individual who has been indicted in the same rhino poaching crimes.

What I am trying to do is make sure individual hunters have a choice.

And many have no wish to deal with crooks - or those who support them.

Well do that... but it has nothing to do with SCI. If hunting organisations, including SCI chapters are being duped by them - then bring it to their attention. If these people were to (try to) take advantage of members - SCI organisation would definitely want to know about it. The constant ragging on SCI doesnt help this endeavour one little bit.... 'SCI' doesnt sponsor such groups.

Matt,

The same individuals have been kicked out of exhibitions by DSC and the NRA!

Of course, one cannot expect similar action from those whop have actively supported Out of Africa, can one?

Even now, some of the individuals involved are on the SCI board, or are being vetted for some top slot.

If they have not been assigned a booth don't be surprised if you find them "sharing" one unofficially with a sympathizer, similar to the countless "brief-case" and "fly by night" agents you find littering the convention.
How they are able to get away with it beats me!

While I am a life member of SCI, I am not blind to their problems. Some really piss me off.

I fail to see how SCI can be blamed in this matter when the convention hasn't even taken place yet.

I will personally alert a board member I know about this mater today.

Larry,

There are some SCI big shots already involved with this gang of crooks.

I think we have the making of Out of Africa Episode Two being processed, courtesy of some hotshot SCI employee!

That is absolute bollocks. But it is true that these known offenders would not last one day in a booth at the SCI convention. They would stand out like dogs balls.

How long did Out of Africa last?

Who was their lawyer and protector?

SCI has become a bloody JOKE!

Some top SCI individuals have already been hunting with Wild Africa for God's sake!

What does that tell you?

Or are you insinuating that these same individuals are unaware that those running Wild Africa are the same who used to run Out of Africa?

Yes, Matt, pull the other one, it has bells on it!

I am no supporter of Wild Africa and most certainly hope SCI doesn't let them in the show. However, I think there are a lot of people who need to wake up to the realities of the world we are in today.

Like it or not, choose to ignore it or not, the facts are that the "antis" are getting strong and stronger by the day. They are becoming better organized and better funded. Would anyone of you have ever thought that a quality show like "Under Wild Skies" would ever be taken off the air because of the "antis"? Would anyone of you have ever thought that a huge uproar could be made over a LEGAL lion hunt in the RSA, something that happens every single day? Would anyone of you have ever thought that pressure by the "antis" could have ever resulted in Melissa Bachman being removed from the cast of Ultimate Survival Alaska? These things should be a wake up call for ALL of us.

I am a life member of SCI and have been for years. There are a hell of a lot of things that SCI does or doesn't do as the case may be that I strongly disagree with. These matters bother me greatly.

Saving hunting is only going to be accomplished though a powerful well funded lobbying and legal effort. Much, if not most of these efforts are out of the public eye. Make no mistake, these are the single most important things that SCI does.

Instead of beating the hell out of SCI, we ALL need to get behind them to help assure the future of hunting.

Instead of bitching and whining about OOA/ Wild Africa and the like ( the sentiments of which I agree with), we need to face the reality. Having them in the convention ( which I strongly disagree with) is a pimple on a gnat's ass compared to the serious issues we ALL face as hunters.

We all need to wake up before it is too late. If you don't like some things about SCI (of which there are plenty) get involved and change it. What I see us doing is the equivalent of cutting your leg off because there is a splinter in your foot.

Wake up ladies and gentlemen.

Sounds great.

We know the antis are after what we love most, but, we should turn a blind eye to what is supposed to be our most important organization cozying up to criminals in the industry.

Yep, that is precisely what we should be doing.

This will strengthen our fight against the antis - instead of giving them more ammo to attack us with.

Yep, just about the right thing to do.

Larry,

Among the first things on the agenda would be to purge SCI of its stooges; get rid of the inner circle and create a situation where all members stand on the same platform regardless of whom they are.
There is no point in mollycoddling a basket of rotten eggs; they need to be replaced with a fresh batch!

When involved in a blood sport like hunting we are all hunters, on the same level and on the square; professors, doctors, lawyers and candle-stick makers are professions - those titles are left at home.
