I'm home, I'm tired, but I enjoyed myself each day as usual. I traveled to the North West Province in the Kalahari for Lion and took an animal I always had dreamed of hunting. And no: he didn't come out of a can! In fact, Lion's must have it in for me, as again I was sorted out in sort order and chosen for elimination. I stopped his intentions at 45 yards with three shots from a .375 H&H, and I'm glad I listened to reason and left my .300 RUM at home. Following this I traveled to Mpumalanga to visit Life-form Taxidermy and decided to leave my Lion in their care for mounting. Returning to Groblersdal, I resumed hunting for a few days then drove down to Jo'berg to meet my friends. We continued on to Port Elizabeth and hunted PG for 13 days from coastal plains to Suur Veldt bush, then up to the mountians for Vaal Rhebok. I managed to squeeze in some duck and goose hunting, as well as collecting a total of 26 animals, from Lion to Oribi. As soon as I get some much needed rest I'll post the hunt report and pics in the proper forum. Good hunting, LDK

Sounds like a great adventure! 26 animals in three weeks is quite a number! You won't be sorry with LifeForm Taxidermy on your cat. My full body mount lion was done by them and they are experts in cats. I will be having them do my leopard this year as well. We will be looking forward to the pics and your stories.

While I go through my pics and wait for film to be developed, I thought I would post a sneak peek of my Lion. I'm on the left with Charl Van Rooyen of Infinito Safari's (PH) on the right.

His track we found early in the morning in the Kalahari sand

That is one beautiful lion .I am sure it will make a great mount.I look forward to hearing the story (narative) of the entire trip.

We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

Very nice lion. We are awaiting the story. It's sad when you shoot a free range lion and have to defend yourself right off, in even posting the pics or the hunt itself.

That's a beautiful lion. Looks like it's mane was brushed up before the pic. Razzer Razzer

WOW-that's a nice cat. Would have have hated to hear how it turned out with the .300. The .375 was definitely the right choice. Congrats David!

Thank you fella's. I appreciate your kind words. scruffy, I PM'd you and will post the two hogs on my hunt report in the forum. I started it tonight but it will take a while for me to complete the report. I was only able to measure one hog's tusk (11 inches) so I wouldn't worry about it Smiler If the Taxidermist that is doing my dip/pack measures my larger hog and emails me a pic, I'll post it but most likely you should win this one. I didn't see but one giant Wart-Zilla and he was too far to bust. Good hunting, David

Thank you Ann. He does have a number of scars on his face. Blair, that's why I like this Lion so much. His mane reminds me of a girl I once dated in the 80's beer Once I get all of my pics I hope we have a side view to show it all.
