I’m looking to contact Richard Powell. He used to post here as Scruffy.

He had a lease on a ranch in Namibia and he lived in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Send me a private message if you can help me out. Thanks!

Jason

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Good morning from Alberta, Canada,

M. Shy is absolutely correct in that I lost my beautiful wife Margaret in April. Four times in her life she battled a deadly cancer and won the first three struggles.

It was not to be the fourth time.

She was the funniest lady that I have ever known, incredibly smart and as I told her many times, more beautiful than Helen of Troy.

I would often stare at her in awe that she had shared 40 years of adventures all over the world with an aging redneck who looked {looks} like 80 miles of gravel.

Eva had booked Margaret and I on a roebuck hunt in Romania in May of this year . I had never hunted in Europe and I thought that we could tour the country after and exchange marriage vows once again in one of those funky castles.

Like Garth Brooks sang, 'I could have missed the pain, but I would have missed the dance.' It was a hell of a dance in places like Arnhemland, Zambezi Valley, rain forests of Bolivia, Alaska, Uruguay, Argentina, South Africa, Wyoming with the great adventurer JBrown, Old Montana etc.

She gunned a charging water buffalo, caught a 48 pound king salmon in Northern British Columbia, watched in more than a little consternation when a herd of elephants got our wind and stampeded down a very large hill - right at us as they got the directions mixed up, had a guide starve us and Top Predator in Australia etc. etc. once again.

And with our wonderful friend Old Sir Phill, shared countless campfires in Namibia and Uruguay.

And we laughed and held hands. For 40 years. I was so blessed.

I may have not posted for 6 months but first thing every morning, I check out AR to read of folks going on or returning from hunts all over the world.

There are so many kindred spirits here and I have met some.

Good hunting to all and Jason - we will talk ... and give my love to your charming little Renee. Margaret and I were enchanted with her charm.

Scruffy, that’s about as wonderful and loving a tribute as a man could make about his wife, thanks for sharing that with us. You’re a fortunate man to have shared all the years with her.
