Beltless Magnum Brass

prof242Beltless Magnum Brass
Wow, my 1,000th post! Had to make this special so decided to let everyone know about my email today to Hornady. I suggested, to reduce initial startup costs faced with developing the .375 Ruger, that they do a run of beltless magnum brass, .532 head and base size, but not necked, and headstamped "Hornady Beltless Magnum." My thought was, that all the wildcatters around the world would immediately buy brass to develop their own wunderkind. Costs would be simple since only one headstamp would be used and no necksizing from the factory!

OT, but: Good idea, however the headstamp should simply be the Hornady "H" like on their other basic cylindrical stuff. Hornady brass is good brass.

prof242RIP, yer right, it is off-topic. I should have known better. Just thought that brass for African cartridges might fit in.

prof242Thought you might be interested in seeing Hornady's reply to my interest in basic brass from the new .375 Ruger.
"We'll certainly take a look at it but we feel initial demand for ammo may exceed our ability to meet our needs in the first go around. We'll see."
So guess this is a solid go for the cartridge...hopefully without the usual Ruger wait for new firearms, even new cartridges.

Savage99Do whatever you want to do but I am not chambering a barrel for a non standard round. Been there, done that and I am still stuck with them.
I will wait til it all gets standard. I do like the new case a lot from what I read.
Perhaps one in 7mm or .30" would be good for me.
I might even buy a Ruger if the stock is a keeper.

prof242My "friend" has tried to get a case for me, but has said that it would be easier to get a gold bar from Ft Knox at the moment. Someone else tried to get more than one case...oops. Be that as it may, as soon as one becomes available, I'm supposed to receive it. I do agree with Savage99 that making reamers, etc., based on one case is bad. However, to help soothe our nimble, but overworked minds, it would help to have a dimensionable sample.

boom stickif he cant get one out maybe he can just measure it.
rim, case head, shoulder dia, neck dia and brass length. i am sure he can get ahold of some digital calipers...
if he can get those we'll make him an honorary member and send him a bottle of scotch or something...what can we bribe him with...anyone want to donate anything???
just make sure he dont get fired. it should take 30 seconds to measure it.
