Yah, and I grew up eating jackrabbit chili in the Texas Panhandle. Dad ground up the old tough ones for chili meat and we fried the young one just like we did cotton tails.

Lots of folks who lived through the Great Depression learned not to waste food.

I have eaten it. It was in 1994 as I recall. I honestly do not recall if it was good or bad.

They sold the meat that we didn't which was almost all of it.

How about in the last decade or so. Smiler

Does anyone know what happens to the 200+ White Rhino carcasses that are shot in the RSA each year?

The nearest I have come to eating Rhino meat was when one got close enough to put a large dent in the side of the hunting car. If he had gotten inside we would have had to eat him whole or die!

Pretty sure I had it once with special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

Steve I ate some rhino meat in April, pretty tough and course grained, kind of similar to elephant....guess if cooked right and long enough it can be O.K but there are some many better alternatives.

Exactly what Martin says, tough and grainy and that was the fillets..... Imagine what eating 35 year old beef would be like.

Thanks, Martin (Manyathelo too). As I thought.
I've had elephant biltong, though; that was fine.

I expect the communities around Umfolozi have some way of preparing it since they probably get a regular supply ... which brings up the other question. Somebody around here has to know how the meat is distributed and who gets it.

It obviously varies but from my experiences, it's most commonly sold.
