6 hrs later when he had nearly finsied I came back with another foot and told him I wanted it done in under 4 hrs. As I walked away he snarled 'You C&%t'. I spun around in time to see one of the other parks examiners (a big Shangaan called Madau) floor him with a slap and say 'That is Mr C... to you Boy'- The title stuck for several years even after I had left parks Big Grin

That is too funny!

I recall a story told by Brian Marsh about a client who insisted on shooting a baboon and eating it himself at dinner that night.

Brian and his wife had trouble keeping their supper down at the table that night.

It seems somewhat barbaric to me, to eat a baboon. I should mention that this was not done on a whim, this client had wanted to eat a baboon for some time prior to his safari.

primates are hunted and eaten to the extinction as bush meat in many african countries. researchers believe the origin of AIDS is from eating chimps carrying the virus. nothing is strange in our world in many asian countries DOG'S meat is concidered as a delicacy Roll Eyes i know very little about Africa!!

Two years ago on proficiency I took a bunch of candidates into chirundu on the last day- I had finished examining and so had two other groups. Two groups were still out. Chirundu has a severe baboon problem, so, after confiring with the police, I dropped of pairs of candiates as stop groups arround the town and told them to meet me on the top of the hill with two baboons each for tea.

The Sarg and I drove up the hill to a spot with a nice view, got a fire going and put the kettle on. As the candidates drifted in I got them to toss the baboon bodies in the back on the second cruiser and come over and join us.

When we had enough of the view etc and decided to head home we discovered all the carcases had been stolen! We were only sitting 20m away from the truck but somebody had snuck in and nicked the lot! It goees to show what hunger will force people to.

Of course, up north it is common- In zambia many folk eat monkey and in the market in Lumbumbashi in the congo three years ago most of the meat on sale was primate and some obviously human- When the chief says 'we are having the new Missionaries for diner', it has a totally different meaning up there to most other parts of the world Wink

I should have mentioned that Brian's client was an American.

I guess if I was hungry enough I would eat a snoobab as well.

just a word of caution to all hunting friends.
please avoid any near contact with scavangers . like volture and heyena even if they pay a lot of money to you, because they carry a plenty of horrible germs and viruses . recently heard of a client and kitchen staff being killed by a disease in a hunting camp in africa.
cheers

IMO the three most critical skills a PH must have are knowledge of the area/game, ability to communicate with the trackers (no small feat), and ability to judge trophies.

I came across an American PH in Kigosi named Johnny Miller who seemed quite good; he certainly got his clients nice trophies. But in general, becoming a PH without living in Africa would seem to be a difficult thing.

As for age, who cares. African hunting is the easiest phyical activity in the world of hunting, save perhaps hunting deer out of a tree stand. It isn't sheep hunting, is it?
