Hello again I know some of you have been waiting for an update on Jimmy the rhino, and I'm sorry it's taken me this long to do it. The fact is that I haven't seen Jim for some time. At dawn yesterday, Roger Whittall summoned me outside to see my buddy and what a sight he was to behold. He is huge - probably 500 kgs. Hard to believe that he was the 50 kg runt I found in the bush about 20 months ago. Actually, I don't think he was ever a runt! Anyway, Jimmy has thrived and this is not surprising with Anne Whittall as his foster mother. He spends very little time at home now, wondering about in the bush all day and only coming for some cubes in the early morning and late evening. Roger and I had a chat with him yesterday morning, and it was nice to catch up. He is seriously intimidating now, but really just a gentle giant. Not all think so, however. Alistair McCintyre (a young man working for Roger)was treed by an irate Jimmy not so long ago. He claims he never ascended a tree that fast in his life, propelled as he was by the rapid advance of Jim's ever-lengthening horn! Ha, ha. I hope you like the pictures of Jimmy through the months, I shall write some more about him in a while. Feel free to help me divulge info by asking questions. Dave Receiving a thorough scratching from Hannah Whittall With Roger and Anne's grandchildren Crossing the Turgwe River And back again Anne gets charged again Pensive moment - did I really nearly bowl my mum over again? Sharing a meal with Anne Catching a doze Mugshot Months ago - weaned long since With Anne and another human being With Anne and buffalo Taking a bath Chilling in the garden With Martin Going for a stroll Growing up Getting really big Whilst I was putting this Jimmy update together, I heard scratching on the office door. Who could it be at this time I wondered? All was revealed when I opened the door. It was good to spend another moment with my friend Jimmy. Sorry about the poor photos - one handed you know... Not to be outdone by Jim, here is the newest member of the Whittal clan. Meet porkchop, a fiesty character indeed. Talk about all creatures great and small! Messy eater!

I'm almost afraid to ask this but how are Roger and Anne doing with the squatters?

Dr Mike Thanks for your concern. Roger and his men continue to hold the squatters at bay, as they have been doing for so long now. All is good at Humani. Dave

Thank you for putting a little light in my day. That is such a wonderful outcome to such a horrible tragedy.

Isn't amazing how really ugly animals can look cute when they are young. I guess homo sapiens qualify as well.

Jimmy is getting real big real quick. Next thing you know Porkchop will be 50kg in the next photo we see him in. Frederik Cocquyt I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

David -Who is the young lady in the last photo with Porkchop? We seldom get to choose But I've seen them go both ways And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory Than to slowly rot away!

Ann, I don't know how we got turkeys in Zim, but we have many and I've learnt there are a couple of different species! They seem to breed very well here. eyedoc, That young lady is Lara Langlois, a very important person in the day to day running of Humani. Dave

pichon1, You are quite correct in most of what you say and the picture below proves it. I wouldn't say 'really ugly' though, or even ugly...Cute and young, sure. Just another animal.... Dave
