Looking for an area to hunt (or just animal sight seeing) that has a classic view of Kilimanjaro. Any place fit the bill in Tanzania?

Planning a family vacation thru Africa and Europe in 2012 (regular sighting seeing and African hunting) and initially considered only Namibia (never been there - thinking of Gras Ranch) and Eastern Cape/Stormberg (been there), but also thought some of the classic safari areas in East Africa would be neat, even if we don't hunt there.

Ideas/recommendations?

If you're considering taking a family to Namibia, you might want to look into Shona Hunting Adventures (http://shonaadventures.blogspot.com/). I hunted with Johann last year and I'm looking at taking my family (wife and two daughters now 10 and 12) back next year.

I had 2 couples a few years ago that combined hunting with site seeing. They hunted with us in RSA then went onto Zanzibar for a few days; did some saltwater fishing, relaxing on the beach. Then inland, took the hot air balloon over the Serengeti along with game drives etc. It's a simple matter of organizing your itinerary. Drop me a line if that sounds interesting.

I think the sight seeing will be MUCH cheaper, but if you're set on hunting Danny McCallum has a concession just south of Kilimanjaro sandwiched between it and Arusha. I believe they only hunt plains game there though.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I hunted NE of the Tarangire NP and had Kilimanjaro in the background on clear days.

Several operators are in that area, and nature watchers go to that NP.

On a clear day you can see it from Monduli, one of TGT's concessions. On our last day hunting hunting in that area, we went up to a hill behind our camp at sunrise for breakfast so we could see Kilimajoro early that morning. Unfortunately it was a hazy day and we couldn't see it, but it was still a cool way to start the day.

Brett is correct, Danny is an acquaintance of mine, and he has a wonderful area that fits the bill, but plains game only. Gerenuk, lesser Kudu, Oryx, grant's tommy's, etc. TGT does too, and I think Brittingham's area as well.

Thanks! Inquiries sent to TGT and Danny. Both look wonderful!

I spent 19 days in the same concession and never once saw the mountain. That was late July and early August, 2009.

Longido is the best for this - and wonderful hunting for PG - lesser kudu, gerenuk, grants and thompsons gazelles, fringe eared oryx, dikdik, wildebeest, zebra, impala, leopard etc. There are some buffalo on the mountain if you're tough enough.
