Ivan: on the latest episode where you and your client take a FINE bull elephant, what double where you guys carrying? I noticed your ammo belt and the bullets looked like 450NEs or maybe 450#2? How about your client?

Hey jorge: I think Ivan carries a Heym 600 NE, does he not? Hector is also an attorney with us here in Vegas and Bwanna and I plan to have lunch with him in the near future. We'll report back on any details. Big Grin

Ivan has a Heym 450 Nitro, that he has used for several years.

He also has a Heym 600 Nitro.

UEG & 450; Correct on both points. I've seen Ivan's 600 at DSC and there's no mistaking those fat shells even on the TV! On this show however, there's no way those were 600NE cartridges on his belt. 450, you refreshed my memory as when I ordered my double, Ivan mentioned and recommended a 450NE. Anyhow looking forward to your confirmation Vaughn and do extend my congratulations to Mr. Carvajal on his superb elephant. jorge

The 450NE has an ornate elephant opener, which I definitely noticed on this episode.

I believe he told me he had a 577 california Rigby at some point. Maybe still does. I have not seen him hunt with it on the shows though.

Like you I think he had a 577NE double at one time, don't know what brand! However I know he now has his old now restored 450NE Heym with the elephant head top lever, and a new Heym 600NE that is mounted with a RMR trijicon sight. What ever double he has in his hands I can guarantee you he knows how, and when to use it!

That is a neat story of it's loss in the river, and the three day diving operation to reclaim it. However he hunted with that rifle for some years before it was restored to new condition. When he got his new Heym 600NE double he had them totally re-do the 450NE!

When Chris told me Ivan had ordered the new 600NE I asked if I could buy the 450NE un-restored, and was told he was going to keep it. I really wanted that rifle, but I wanted it in it's un-restored condition!

I was fortunate enough to hear Ivan's story of the river search for the .450 personally last year in Zim. I asked him about crocs, and he said there were none in that stretch of river. Not sure whether that was the cold hard truth, or whether it was one of those, "I don't want my wife to find out what really happened." stories that we all have to tell sometimes! A great story, nonetheless, from a man gifted at telling stories.
Cheers,
Tim

Dr. FM, It is allowed here to post pictures of rifles,if proper credit is given for the pictures, unless HEYM or Ivan Carter objects to them being posted.

Personally I think Heym and Ivan Carter would gain much advertisment from their being posted here!

Please do post them!

I'm smiling at all the comments here. I still remember reading, I believe about the rescuing that 450 from the Zambezi. If lost it would join Ian Nachyens 450#2 lost after a hippo capsized the boat.

Hi Ivan,
I really enjoy your shows; you're a true inspiration!

Could I please ask your reason for moving UP from the 577NE to the Heym 600NE?
I noticed another PH (M.S.) recently moved DOWN from a 600NE to a Heym 577NE!

Many thanks, stay safe,
Peter

Dr.FM: chime in too!

Peter,

I will let Ivan answer your question but I had an item of information to share with you. Mark has hunted with many big bore doubles as you know.

While he greatly enjoys, and has hunted with the Heym .577 NE he has also hunted prior to that with the .600 NE. It is my understanding that Heym is currently building a new .600 NE for Mark.

These are both great stopping rifles that each have their benefits and personalities.

Cheers,
Shawn

I had all the infos for the .600 Heym from Ivan.
Great making of photos.

I need the okay form Ivan, than I can post them in 3 weeks.
(Because we are very busy now.)

And I want to ask Ivan, why he dont have an elephant head on this rifle too.
(Like on his .450, witch is his trademark now...)
I think we must "correct" that...
:-)

Best wishes.
