Wow, dozens.

Looks like Chewore North with Andy Hunter (which the author called a "canned hunting group"). Also called the buffalo a "water buffalo".

Rubbish!

Reminds me of Bwana Moja

I was told he had washed his hands of hunting and wants his hunting past to be forgotten!! As he is getting into show business or something!!

I hope this is not true.

I've met him at the range a few times and he seemed ok.

Why he is caving to them is beyond me.

People were threatening to boycott his late wife's foundation......but so what? The outrage would have gone in a few weeks.

I do not know of his situation but it could be very difficult or dangerous, costly etc.. to be constantly around a vulture like public and being open about hunting elephants and lions.Even on AR we see hunters against hunters and people refusing to post hunt reports.Everyones life situation is not the same and some people find themselves in more difficult ones than others.

He "Came out" as a hunter after his wife died to get support from hunters for his foundation. The Sporting Shooters Association of Australia was all over him, running articles in their magazine on him being one of us and asking for donations. Never liked him then, don't like him now. Why didn't he come out as a hunter when he was at his height of his cricket career?

According to the article;

"Cricket legend Glenn McGrath forced to apologise after pictures emerge of him smiling with a dead elephant and wildebeest during African safari"

That's probably the new Number 1 "wildebeest".

The reality is African hunting - especially elephants and lions - is a politically and social unacceptable activity. Especially for people who have a public profile and earn their living in the public arena - tv commentator is one of them.

The activity is perfectly legal.

You don't see a lot of high profile people with pictures of dead elephants or lions. King of Spain for one had some serious issues when one was found floating around.

Pussy is an adjective that comes to mind. He just needs to tell them to stick it. That's almost as bad as apologizing for standing while he pees. Apologizing only makes the idiots bolder.

I'd be damn proud to go on a safari like that and would still be grinning.

channel 9 draws large name & high paying corporate advertisers during the cricket that McGrath commentates on.

and here are cricket AUs large commercial partners.. http://www.cricketaustralia.co.../partners/commercial

They dont want their products negatively targeted by destructive greenie campaigns & boycotts.
McGraths obligation is to his contractual agreements that effect many large corporations if he does not tow the ch9 Co. line.

You are one of crickets golden boys if you get a cruisy well paid commentary job on CH.-9 cricket coverage,

BUT it comes at a price...their corporate bosses are very demanding and want to own you.
One Oz cricketer got ostracised because he preferred to go see his wife & kids after a match(which he did)
rather than going for the 'obligatory' back to the bosses luxury yacht after the game with the team.

BTW: McGraths new trophy wife getting convicted of drink driving doesn't get too much of a mention... Wink

At the risk of turning this thread into a choir preaching again , ponder on the following. Why do so many hunters , when confronted by anti's , start their defense by exactly that , defense ? We don't have to rationalize hunting by arguing firstly there's an overpopulation of a certain species etc etc. We don't have to apologize for hunting. We LOVE hunting and everything that goes with that. The spin off is that its a great conservation tool when managed properly. Better than any other current conservation model out there.

We had a account with a multi national international bank - one who is always in the news about giving themselves obscene bonuses.

A vice-president came over to our house pay his respect, as they usually do each time they are in town.

He made a comment when he saw some of my trophies, and the meeting room was surrounded by gun cabinets.

Tony has been here and knows what I mean.

He said it was very sad in this day and age that people actually enjoy "killing animals"!

As he was in my house, I did not want to be rude and tell him what I thought of him.

Next day we wrote to them to close our account.

Then the fun started clap

We were getting calls from all over the place, from president of this and vice president of that.

I refused to take any of their calls. Telling my manager that I had no wish to deal with a bank that employs an arrogant prick who had no decency to keep his personal dislikes to himself.

My manager wrote exactly what I said in his communication to them.

Ever since, any time one of their big shots is town, they call and ask for a meeting.

I have refused to meet any of them.

Was stupid on his part to say anything about a client.

But if the shoe was on the other foot and the client or clients or potential customers or targeted customers are offended by hunting one needs to keep a low profile. Most public figures who hunt do.

Killing elephants and lions is not a politically correct activity or socially acceptable - perfectly legal. Why we don't see a lot of celebrities, politicians or public company CEOs with photos of dead elephants.

There's so much that I want to say on this. It is, for the most part, pointless as this Forum is about hunting and we, as a community, largely share similar views.

I do have to say, that's a really poor excuse for an account manager / sales person. The goal of ANY one in a client facing role is to understand the client, not the other way around. The client should never be bothered by the personal opinions of the vendor.

By the same token, the vendor should be impressed by any client who stands up for what they believe in - it means the vendor has an honest client. That means a lot...

Regardless, when I see this guy (Glenn McGrath) apologizing, I see someone who is willing to sell their values for a dollar. Someone who says "money" is worth more than integrity.

In the end, this is where Dollars are worth more than Integrity.

Want to see my smile? I just shot a mountain goat and packed it off a mountain...

Integrity is doing something that MEANS something to ME. There are no consequences because I own the entire experience.

As an aside, I'm in Sales. I am client facing, onsite with VP's and C's on a weekly basis. They all know I hunt. There are no secrets.

In my opinion, they respect me more for the honesty than if I were just after a dollar. They know what to expect, where I'm coming from and why.

This Glenn guy? Who knows. By the same token he's invited my response of "who cares?". Does he really think the world cares about HIM?

The world only care about their own opinion.

Which only begs the question: should I care about theirs?

I think likely not...

Regards,

Robert

Easy to do this when the bank wants your business. If the roles were reversed and you wanted something from the bank, knowing that the representative was anti-hunting, I think most of us would be wise enough to meet at a neutral location. Does that make someone a whimp or smart? Business needs to be business, and not personal, in both directions.

Some years ago, Barclays tried to shut us down at very short notice and although it took me a lot of digging, it turned out that it was being done by 3 of their anti hunting staff members........ I was furious and sent out a press release to all the hunting media and with their help and a lot more importantly, the help of one or two individuals who shall remain nameless because I know they don't court publicity, I was able to turn the tables on the bastards.

They cost me a fair bit of money, time trouble and worry but it felt great to be able to retaliate and I'll be eternally grateful to those who helped me beat them.

I guess the moral of the story is never to trust the banksters any further than you can chuck 'em...... and perhaps don't ever put all your eggs in one basket.
