When is the US going to pay the Blacks and the Native Americans? I wonder if Lane will ever even consider supporting their causes. Colonial plunder was unimaginable and and this ill gotten wealth was splurged on luxuries way beyond imagination. Wasted with nothing to show in investments and growth for the nation of its people. In South Africa and Zimbabwe the white farmers lead a lavish lifestyle several times beyond anything a similar property provided anywhere in the world. It was common for such farmers to own Mercedes Benz and new Land Cruisers when their counterparts in the US barely survived on a 10 year old ford and a 15 year old pickup truck. Instead of expecting the African governments and the tax payers to pay such white farmers, the former colonies should be paying out the former colonies. the collective debt of the Western G7 countries is much less than the colonial plunder they extracted. Sorry, Naki. The white farmers in colonial areas that you are talking about had very large farms that had good productivity. A farm here is considered quite large if it’s a square mile (640 acres). The farms where the colonial was living in luxury were tens of thousands of hectares in size. They also employed at least hundreds of people. A true medium sized business. A crop farmer owning that much land here in the Midwest would be driving whatever he wanted, even with our tax rates. The big farms in this country are cattle ranches, and they cannot produce decent crops. Most of those farms (ranches) actually are not owned but have large swaths of rented BLM (government) land at low prices- and while those farmers do well, they are not elite rich folks because the value of what the land can produce isn’t that high. By and large, the lands that were taken from the southern African white farmers were taken in contravention to Zimbabwe law, and the courts in Zimbabwe ordered the restitution. Mugabe essentially said good luck in getting the money. The farmers involved can show records of what they owned, a record of what it was worth, and who took it. Then add on a court decision stating they are owed compensation. Compare that to the vague multiple generations ago crime of taking the person as a slave, (vague in multiple senses- who did it, how much, and who is owed the compensation). It would be quite different if the actual person enslaved was able to name an individual and a legal damage… what you are claiming is a violation of most nations law- the children who committed no crime being liable for the damages done to someone who is no longer able to claim damage. It would be like untouchables in India demanding you personally pay compensation to them because of your ancestor’s treating them poorly kept them from achieving their full potential. | |||

The basis of law and morality for monotheistic nations is the Old Testament. In this case Ezekiel 18.20. Basically,sons aren't responsible for their father's sins. Whatever your religious beliefs or disbeliefs those ancient rules still give us a way to run a civilised society. Nakihunter's background may not be monotheistic but it still is no excuse for asking people today to pay for something done long ago by people who may not have been their direct ancestors, just the same nationality or race. Such an attitude is in itself inherently racist! | |||
