Man, I'm sorry about the mess I made with Las Vegas Eric.... I lurked on this sight for some time before actually registering. My Login name was Africa2003. Once I got here, I met people like Detorre and Carr who shared some spreadsheets, as did Shumba (Tim) and I came to the conclusion that 2003 and my buffalo hunt were not realistic. There were so many things I didn't understand, and I based my daily rates on the RSA rates I saw advertised. I was WAY off the mark...I needed more money, and more time to save for it.... I have no reason to try and compare penis sizes. I'm just a regular guy trying to live the African dream. I have kids (8 and 12) and a wife, and a house payment, and a car payment, and a small business that has not been doing too well for the past few years........and it means cutting corners and scrimping to do it. It's been hard, and I'm not too proud to admit that. I went to the SCI convention in '03 with a vet (Shumba-Tim) and we booked our trip to Zim for 2004. I felt like I needed to change my name so as to not mislead my friends here, so I became N'Gagi (the gorilla...I'm a BIG guy..) Since I joined AR, I have participated in one AR Big Boar, Big Bore hunt, and posted the results. I ordered hats and shirts and wore them to the convention and met others. I have visited a few other AR members at their homes to see their trophy rooms and even did an African Pizza Party one night and met some guys from RSA. I have an AccurateReloading.com windshield sticker on my Jeep, and my license plate is BwanaBe. I'm really serious about my love of African hunting, and cannot get enough of this website, and the friends I've made here. I have always been honest and shared what I DID know, and UNTIL NOW, not afraid to ask about the things I DID'NT. I have to admit, I may have been sucked in by a few arm-chair bwana's, and even if they share what they learned in books, I will put it all in my memory banks and try to sort it out later. Let's just try and do one thing, and keep it honest. Agreed? [ 07-02-2003, 10:04: Message edited by: N'gagi ]

There are some poeple here who seem to range from simple embellishment to bold faced lies when it comes to their African hunting exploits (and perhaps their personal ones). Go back and scan some of the posts here in the past few weeks, you'll get the idea.

I do not doubt any of the stories I have read on this site. I think of this site as one big virtual campfire. When you get a group of people passionate about a certain subject there does tend to be a certain amount of embellishment. I may just be a weird duck but I like reading the stories regardless of how factual the information is. To me the real story is how the hunter remembers it and shares it with those lucky enough to hear it.

N'gagi, I smell it, too. Guys who appear out of nowhere dropping all sorts of names and experiences, but no one knows them or has heard of them before, and they never seem to have access to photographs of their exploits. I am so sick of the bullshit, that I find myself spending less and less time here. George

This is a very odd thread. If honesty in posting is the fundamental issue here, the best way to stay out of such hassles is to just play it straight in everything you say and do. It's really quite uncomplicated. As Will Rogers said, "If you find yourself in a hole - quit diggin'!" AD

I have always enjoyed the stories on this forum. I never assumed that the tales were 100% accurate, just as in a book you want to add a little excitement to keep the attention of the audience. Doug

Some of the recent messages with name dropping, outragious physical feats, and uncommon bags just started to pile up, and I was hoping to stem the tide just a bit. Maybe it's all true, and the guys are just braggarts..... I guess that's why I read the non-fiction aisles at the library. Let's forget about it, huh?

N'gagi, I like the others, I guess other than George am not quite sure what to make of your post,I'm like you have not been yet but am working on it, do you just prefer not to hear any stories or read any any more? I allways take every thing with a grain of salt and try to filter it out as needed.

Most of the folks on AR are the real thing, not counting a couple of trolls, which should be ignored... What you may or may not be overlooking is there are a lot of folks on AR that do have a world of experience and it ain't BS...I have met many of them at SCI at my booth, I have booked many of them to Africa, and they are so far 100% the real McCoy.. Probably best to accept a person at his word until such time that he proves himself otherwise, and if he is a counterfiet then you can bet it will come to light on this board sooner or later....just too much knowledge on this board to pull it off In My not allways so Humble opinnion. That's the way I see it....

You should always be skeptical on the internet. There is a lot of things that ain't what they seem. Don't trust all you read. Advise about guns and reloading should be doble checked with more reliable sources. Don't send money to anyone with out thinking. It easy to hide behinda a fake name and get away with it. Just be carefull Johan

I am still getting into the swing of a new job and a new home, and suffering with a very slow dial up connection, so I haven't been able to read every single thread like I used to. As a result, I must have missed all the name dropping and exaggerated feats and experience. Any tips as to where to look? Do we have a new troll I am not aware of? Canuck

............. This is puzzeling to me, but I've been where electricity doesn't go, for a couple weeks, and nobody uses computers other than a hand held calculator,to figure exchange rate, so it seems I've missed something. I must admit, I have absolutely no idea what threds this post pertains to! Someone please enlighten me! ..........

I posted my opinnion, but I have no clue where he is coming from I just accepted the fact that he had some misgivings about some folks and approached it from that standpoint... I have not seen such posts on the African board...

Rather than point fingers, I was hoping the folks doing the embellishing would get the point. If you didn't, that's a GOOD thing. You aren't a part of it. This had something to do with me, however, I think that we have it all worked out now (although I may have pissed off a decent fellow on these boards ). I don't plan to make any further comments about it and hope that we can just let this go. Tim

It's always sad when few people spoil for the majority by not being honest. I wish that everyone could be fine with their story and tell it. Then everything would be more interesting. So far I have made a lot of friends on the forum and what I do to judge if they are true or fake is to take other contact than on forum and mail with the people I think I would like to hang out with. So far I made some great contacts here...... [ 07-03-2003, 03:46: Message edited by: cchunter ]

I was going to try to be humorous, but I'm too tired. Atkinson gave me the lead for IMR 4320 for my Lott (which wound up 500 gr, 2300+ fps), so I know he is the real thing. Nickudu must be the real thing, cause he has a video! (unless he had a chain-smoking stunt double from New York). Not to mention the recurring Barnes ad! And there are others. Actually, I am a bisexual tap dancer from San Francisco that has never been to Africa. All the photos are of my life-partner, an architect and photo-doctoring specialist, that had a sex change operation a couple years ago, that made him (her) look old and weathered, hunch backed, hard of hearing, and bow-legged from riding mules, with a really piss poor attitude, and wouldn't know an elephant from a naugahyde couch from J C Penneys. Whew, that feels better.

Terry, I was wondering if you could resist. You are so easy (and cute too!). I'm still giggling from my post. What does that mean? P.S. I'm glad to see you came around about the binoculars. I'm seriously considering tying helium baloons to my cartridge belt.

Will, I am still chuckling about your post too. I am still curious about subject of this thread though...is it all about the LV Eric thing from his video thread?? [FWIW, Saeed mentioned on a few occasions he has met Eric at the Vincent's and has referred to him as a friend. That's good enough for me.] Or am I missing something else that I might find entertaining?? Cheers, Canuck

Experiencing difficulty in discerning what or who is the "real thing" does not reside solely with the young. It takes time here, to get a feel for such things. Writing styles have much to do with perception, intentional or not and even the real thing can be wrong at times. I'd say to the young man, kick back and let it flow ... it's all part of life.

Hi all, It looks like I missed something while we were out pig hunting. Although this subject comes up from time to time. Why pretend to be something you are not? I am certainly a novice in a lot of this but never felt the need. Actually I am honest to a fault. I cant even tell a convincing lie to spare someones feelings. Of course you cant see my face on the internet but believe me it is a dead giveaway. I generally tend to take people at their word unless given reason not to. As far as the animals killed thing it depends on the type of hunting as well. Culling will rack up alot of big numbers, but numbers alone certainly dont tell the whole story.

I don't think I see too many BS stories on the board and I was helped a lot to prepare for my first trip from which I returned in June. My recommendation is that you guys that have never been- don't go. I'm already planning a buffalo hunt in Tanzania and ordered a .416 Ruger today to get ready for it, as you can see it's habit forming. Since I've now been once I'm now an expert on African hunting as well! Seriously the guys here will help a lot with planning, flight preparations etc.

This is/was a weird thread. I don't follow the forums close enough to catch the BS (I guess). Too bad....I'd like to think everyone was trustworthy and here for the same purpose(s). Guess not.

I'd have to agree with Ray and Nikudu-both of whom are most assuradly real. I never had any inkling of what Africa really means until 10days into my first trip. A young bull in must put our vehicle into the ditch as I stood in the back. I realized we were in some danger when I looked and the trackers were off the back and heading away at great speed. AFRICA is something that must be experienced and will never be forgotten. It gets in your blood rather badly and like Malaria comes back on a regular basis. Each time you think "That's my last time" but a year or so later back it comes.

Some how I feel partly responsible for this thread. I TRUELY HOPE IT DOSENT CAUSE ANY BAD BLOOD BETWEEN ANYONE. I have no anger or hostility for any member of AR except for Ray A. Just kidding Ray, just seeing if you were paying attention. . I feel that 99.9% of what is said here is the truth, from the hunters to the newbys and the booking agents. I have also been here from the begginning of time and seen alot and base my statment's on that. The only eception is the obvious trolls who never survive thanks to our troll hunters.

Howdy! Do fisherman exaggerate their catches? I mean making a story "better" is just human nature and so I guess is lying. I havent noticed any bullshit here, Shakari sent me a wonderful brochure from Kuduland etc. Name dropping? It seams that a lot of people know each other, have hunted with the same outfitters etc which makes so called name dropping into something else...I think its called sharing. But has this thread made people paranoid! But as they say: Just because youre paranoid doesnt mean that theyre not out to get you. Lets start a thread on safari f-ckups! I managed quite a few on my first -and so far only- safari.

quote:I always do that when I post a hunt report! Actually, if anyone wants to improve their credibility, just watch me and learn... I have it down to a science. All you have to do is go on a safari and shoot smaller trophies than anybody else, and then proudly show the pictures while others post pictures of huge record-book heads. It also conquers that old ego problem you've been dealing with. For extreme cases, just return from a safari a couple of days after Nickudu posts pictures of what he shot! Trust me - nobody will doubt your stories when you have a crisp color photo of you on your first safari, grinning ear-to-ear, posing with a 43" kudu. Actually, the only animal that qualified for "gold medal" on this trip was the springbok my son shot - and I wouldn't have it any other way. I do have to admit one exaggeration - I may have described my sable last year as a 40" bull. Actually, it measured 39 3/4" on the long horn. There. I'm clean. Rick. One thing is for sure, no matter how big it is or how high it goes in the record book, it can never equal that thrill you get from that first safari!

I agree, some of the stories are a little out of hand. 450 Dakota told of doing a backflip after eating one tic-tac. I got a whole package yesterday, I didnt even get so much as a summersault out of them!!
