My wife spotted this Lion outside my shop and said that he is too old and needs to be put down, what do you Lion experts think, should he be shot or not? He doesn't have a black nose but the claws are pretty worn down.

Jerry,
Perhaps, it's time to consider a respirator when working around those taxidermy chemicals.

Now, if we were to hunt him, what caliber would be best? Due to his age and condition, maybe a .14&1/4 on the .416 Rigby case for accuracy, flat trajectory and to save the hide (although from looking at it, it might not be worth saving). Orrrr, for a quick and humane finish, the 1-bore double-rifle with 2-oz dead soft lead to ensure stopping power and expansion?

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

That is the ugliest lion I have ever seen!

That needs to be culled for sure, obviously a UAC (Ugly Animal Control) lion...

No way is he a canned/caged cat, but I agree with the above post and would not disregard the possibility that he has been drugged, perhaps since the 80's.

Let him feed first then shoot him, so he weighs more.

I'm pretty sure I saw that cat working the block in Chinatown the other day, but then, it was wearing spandex and 6 inch stilletto heels. Maybe bad ID.
