Dear Guy's What animals make up the small 5? Is there more than the small 5? (small 10) Is there any limit to which countries they come from. Thanks Cam

Always heard of it as the Tiny Ten and that it could be made up of any of the small species. I have taken 7 over the years that qualify. Southern Bush Duiker - Zim Blue Duiker - RSA Natal Red Duiker - Mozambique Livingstone Suni - Mozambique Common Oribi - Zambia Steenbok - Zim Cape Grysbok - RSA Mike ______________ DSC DRSS (again) SCI Life NRA Life Sables Life Mzuri IPHA "To be a Marine is enough."

Add Klipspringer, Vaal Rhebok & Dik Dik. The Sharpe's Grysbok is another option on Grysbok, as there are options on several species. I never sonsidered the Vaal Rehbok as one of the tiny ten, but some could and do add the Mt Reedbuck. This would be necessary for them all in RSA as the Damaraland Dik-dik is only available in Namabia and the Sharpes Grysbok is mostly found in Zim, altough there is a limited population north of Mesina near the Zim boarder in RSA. Now if you want tiny (and I do) the Royal Antelope in Ghana is now available.

DOJ, The Sharpe's grysbok has a fairly wide distribution being very common along the Luangwa river in Zambia. I know this from 20-30 unsuccessful stalks for those little bastards along that river. Mark, Just what I've always heard and thought: The Mt. Reedbuck and Vaal Rhebok are not considered part of the Tint Ten, as they are too large. I have both and don't count 'em. Mike ______________ DSC DRSS (again) SCI Life NRA Life Sables Life Mzuri IPHA "To be a Marine is enough."

I've herd of the tiny ten, but on one hunting show the PH talked about the small 5 and all were insects that had the name of Big 5 animals. All I remember right off is the rhinocerous beetle. Caleb

http://www.stevekobrine.com/Ghana.htm At the S.C.I. Convention I saw a Royal Antelope mount from Ghana. I was told the hunt cost was $16,000 for one of these, is that true? Kathi kathi@wildtravel.net 708-425-3552 "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page."

I always thought that it was any combination of the small antelopes. I just finished my "Little 5" last week in Namibia. Duiker, Oribi - Zimbabwe 2005 Klipspringer - Namibia 2008 Damara Dik-Dik, Steenbok - Namibia 2010 I have the Klipspringer as a full body mount and the Dik-Dik will be as well.

Cable68, dont forget the Lion Ant! There may be a Leopard Turtle....and I guess the other two have suomething to do with Buffalo and Ele dung... For the "Tiny Ten", I don't know if I qualify to the high standards of this bb or not...I have: Vaal Rhebok Oribi Mtn Reed Buck Blue Duoiker Red Duiker Common Duiker Kirks Dik Dik (smae as the one in Damaraland according to genetics) Steenbok Tommy Sharps Grysbok (Zambia) Cape Grysbok Klipspringer Personally I think that qualifies but I shall endevor to add a fugging Suni which keeps eluding me! Little Bastards! Ain't even seen one on two hunts for them yet but I shall prservere! MoFos get dang hard when you hunt for them specifically rather than a chance encounter! We actually saw 8 Sharps Grysbok before I could get a shot and kill one last year in Zambia and we were specifically hunting them....took three days!

For those interested these are classed as Pygmy Antelope and SCI has a catagory that includes a total of 36 distinct animals, which are: Duikers (20) Dik-Dik (6) Suni (2) Grysbok (2) Oribi (2) Klipspringer Steenbok Royal Antelope Bates Pygmy Antelope Any ten of these constitute the Tiny Ten. Again, no reedbucks nor gazelles qualify as Pygmy Antelope. Hope this helps. Mike ______________ DSC DRSS (again) SCI Life NRA Life Sables Life Mzuri IPHA "To be a Marine is enough."

Mike, Exactly! I just dug out my awards copy of SAFARI and all reedbuck and vaal rhebok are classed as Ringed-horn antelope. The Tommy is a gazelle. And to answer my own question I still need one more Pygmy for a "TINY 10". Mark MARK H.
