Another members comment about hunting animals indigenous to the area got me thinking. When i started looking around at waterbuck it seems they arent tied to the water so much. Is this true? Are they actually creatures of the bush velde?

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Waterbuck may like water, but don't need it like sitatunga, lechwe, etc. They got 'em all over the place in RSA. My wife's was taken in hilly country with lots of hiking.

They are very adaptable animals. They are found all over RSA and Namibia. They do need to drink every day.

From my personal observations, Waterbuck tend to thrive well around natural waterways, be it rivers, swamps, streams or lakes. They adapt well to dryer environments but no doubt they earn their name honestly.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
