For buff, which would you prefer to have in your hands - the Lott or the Capstick?

FWIW, It'll be much easier to buy ammo for the 458 Lott in Africa if your ammo goes missing on your way over here......... Wink

What Shakari said. Ammo would be my first concern. Either will kill an Ele just as dead.

Ammunition supply being not an issue, would you still pick the Lott over the Capstick?

C'mon guys, I'm trying to justify having a Capstick built for me since my wife says I should take whatever I feel is necessary to take a Cape Buffalo for her. I've already got a .416 Taylor and a .375 H&H, so I need a .45 or bigger, right?

Going the 470 Capstick route myself. Like something a little different, I can shoot either 500g Woodleigh softs and solids at 2150 fps (470 Nitro velocity) or 500g A-Frames at 2400 fps. I also like the ghost shoulder on the Capstick.

OH OK..... in that case, I'd strongly recommend the Capstick as a much more suitable calibre..... In fact, the Capstick is absolutely essential to your hunt.

Hello all,

Question would be why not a 500 Jefferey or 505 Gibbs,

Seeing as you have a 375, make the jump biggger

The .470 has a very slight edge in bullet diameter; the .458 Lott has a very slight edge in sectional density.

Velocities and recoil are about the same.

If you want something less common, get the .470 Capstick.

My suspicions were right all along. I knew that the .470 Capstick was the one to get. Now I'll just have to tell my wife that everyone has confirmed my choice.

Thanks everyone. Big Grin

Good question on the 500 Jeffery. I plan to have my CZ Safari Classic in 375 rebarreled to 470 Capstick and almost went the 500 Jeffery route since my rifle's at Ed Plummers place (AHR) this month. The Capstick is a much easier conversion from the 375, hits almost as hard, recoils less and doesn't break that magical 50 caliber mark where Uncle Sam gets involved. Also brass is much cheaper. I still have until December to change my mind lol...
Both are real good choices in my mind.

Chuck
