Been to Namibia for PG and Zim for DG. Looking to go back in '16 for some PG. Don't even know where to start and am looking for advise. Either South Africa or Namibia would be my pick. No fences.... Any advise on a PH? Would like to make it to Vegas for the SCI show, but don't see it happening.

Thanks in advance.

If you are in the Dallas area, hurry on down to the DSC Expo and see some folks.

There are many good choices in both countries, but it is my practice to never hunt with an outfitter for whom I have no personal reference from someone that I know and trust. Your experienced friends will rarely lead you astray on such matters. The only outfits in RSA that I have used are Limcroma Safaris (at the DSC Expo now) and Chris Troskie and both of them reside in Limpopo Province and hunt RSA and some surrounding countries.

Have fun!

And when you decide who to hunt with, come back and do a search here on that company or individual.

If you ready of any serious complaint about them, pick someone else.

There are many, many great operators in both countries, who will give you a hunt of your life.

Sadly, there are some crooked ones too, who might make your hunt rather memorable in a way you do not wish to participate in.

Like going on any major adventure, do your due diligence, and you will get what you want.

I can highly recommend both PH's that I have hunted with in SA.

charl Van Royen with Infinito Safaris in the Limpopo Province

And

Stan Burger Safaris in e Northwest Province

Both PH's were very professional and the experience was outstanding with both Charl and Stan I was the only hunter in camp the entire time and both bent over backwards to make mine an outstanding memory.

Leopards Valley Safari's with Dave Davenport is a solid choice. I've hunted with him twice and am looking forward to visiting again in the future.

Decide what you want to hunt and then pick it from there.

Charl with Infinito would be a great choice. I did my Bucket List Hunt with him a couple of years back and he worked his arse off for me. Big Grin We were very successful and hunted in every province of S.A. during that hunt except the Northern Cape. It was quite the experience. tu2 Charl and Erika were great hosts.

Since you have been to Namibia for PG and Zim for DG then you have a feel for the differences in a trip to an area with and without DG, even if you are hunting PG only. Having the DG around makes it feel more like Africa to me.

Also I personally like going new places each time, even if I've enjoyed the company of a past PH.

Andrew's idea of enjoying Zambia this time may not be a bad idea. Depends on your wish list of PG. I've hunted the Luangwa Valley and the Kafue and although they are different experiences topography wise they were both "real" Africa and excellent trips.

You may want to look into Andrew's Royal Kafue or Thor's Munyamadzi on the Luangwa. Both wild and teaming with game.

I suspect the duPlooy's should be up and running soon as well with Zambia opening and if they get their old concessions that may be a good choice as well.

Cheers
Jim

We all sell impala or warthog or whatever at roughly the same prices.

I once asked a hunter about attending shows and specifically how he would decide on who to hunt with when there are 100's of African outfits in the same isle. Almost without hesitation he said: the one I will get along with best.

Hunting in South Africa with our high fences is to some a major obstacle. I still need an unbiased answer as to the chances of seeing a fence over here if you are hunting on 15 000 acres.

If fences really put you off then you need to revisit Namibia, although there are many fenced areas, Zimbabwe, Zambia or Mozambique. I believe Botswana still has plains game hunting on private land and correct me if I am wrong.

Have fun in deciding who will be hosting you on your next hunt.

Be Very Careful!!

I went on 6 safaris into Africa before I ran into a bad experience, but it was and continues to be a total nightmare!

Always go with a outfitter that you absolutely KNOW has it all together. Verify this with someone that has actually spent time with the outfitter on his property that you KNOW personally and trust.

Believe me when I tell you that it only takes one bad experience to put you in a totally defensive mode towards ever venturing out on safari with someone you haven't hunted with before again...

I was completely in love with African safari hunting... Now I am very, very cautious.

Where do you live? Me and Erika are in the USA for two months, so we might be passing close to you. Then we can discuss some options in our new free range Eastern Cape areas and also our PG up north. You might be surprised what we can come up with!

For PG, there are two areas you should checkout. One is Sengwa with Mokore Safaris (Duckworth). I hunted there in'12. That was their first year to have the area and they built beautiful tented camps. The game there was abundant and with there management it will just get better. The Duckworths are top of the line stand up guys. One other area is The Bubye Valley Conservancy. I hunted there in Aug. and it is truly like the garden of Eden. It is high fenced but with 850,000 acres and no internal fences, that's free range to me. One BIG plus is you hear or see WILD lions everyday. There are 4 or 5 PHs that are hand picked to hunt the BVC, John Sharp, who I hunted with, Shaun Buffee, Pete Fick, Martin Nel. You can't go wrong with any one of them.

Thanks Rob. Smiler

64 As mentioned what are your primary animals? This will obviously be a deciding factor of your specific region.

We hunt open low fence ranches and private game reserves that are 40 square miles. The bio -diversity of the Eastern Cape supports 30+ trophy species.

we also have new areas in Mozambique if you are wanting to hunt a little further off the beaten track.

best regards and let me know if I can help, even if its just for advice.

I would strongly recommend the Bubye Valley Conservancy with PH Nigel Theisen.

Like already stated...the Bubye is the Garden of Eden.

Nigel is the epitome of a proper Rhodesian PH from the old school.

PM me or e-mail (ledvm@msn.com) me if you need more information.

I have taken zebra, bushbuck, impala, gemsbok, kudu, springbok and cape buff.

Dad shot a cow gemsbok in Namibia so a bull would be nice. Looking for hartebeest, and wildebeest for sure. Maybe some of their smaller antelope as well.

I appreciate all the responses. Now to put the bug in dads ear that we need to go again before he is to old to go!!

As mentioned above, you may want to decide the species your after first as that will kind of drive habitat/areas/country. Then sort out outfitters/Ph's. Not too likely you'll find nyala or mountain rheebok in the Kalihari or damara land dik-dik outside of the Namibian Damara land.

Once that you sort your species out you'll likely have lots better/more accurate recommendations.

You will have a hard time finding a better outfit to hunt with than Ernest Dyason of Spear Safaris. It's my number one choice of outfitters that I would not hesitate to hunt with again. Period.
