Wishing you a safe journey.

I see things are heating up in Uganda. So take care of your self.

Wish you all the best.

My sister in law & her husband are now there on a Medical mission. They were supposed to have gone to South Sudan but after the recent troubles, the whole program was moved to Uganda and they are doing the training of the South Sudan rural medical teams. Brand new facilities being set up.

I am going to Zim in 3 months and thought about Uganda but too complicated for a first Africa trip.

The medical mission will be based in Lira, in the northern part of the country near Murtchison Falls NP. I seem to recall at least 1 outfitter being located in that general area. the trip has the Uganda govt approval- in fact they are providing transportation and armed escort throughout the trip, as well a diplomatic visas for participants. hopefully someone will be along with some advice...

What are you interested in hunting?

I know several people that have gone with Christian. Sitatunga is on my list, I hope to head over there soon.

I may be wrong, but I think Steve (Shakari) did some exploratory hunts in Uganda and may have the contacts you seek.

Good luck.

There are a number of outfitters and it looks like you'll be pretty centrally located. As mentioned Bruce Martin has a great reputation. The other main outfitter seems to be Christian Weth with Uganda Wildlife Safaris.

There are a number of areas you can hunt but I'd start by looking at their websites.

Steve (Shakari) and I believe DDRHook did an exploratory hunt in Uganda a few years ago and there is a link to an article on Steve's website (Shakari Connection).

I'm booked for eighteen days starting September 24th and am counting the days.

Best of luck in arranging something.

I did indeed do a few exploratory hunts in the Karamoja region just before I retired a few years ago and I enjoyed them immensely.

Uganda won't ever be a big hunting destination like Tanzania is or at least, not in the foreseeable future but it does have an awful lot going for it for the hunter who is prepared to take the rough with the smooth and doesn't expect a supermarket style hunting product........ so perhaps better suited to tough old school style hunters.

THIS might be of interest.

Jaglav,

You're gonna have a ball up there and I look forward to hearing about your hunt. tu2

Christian Weth Uganda Wildlife Safaris would be a good choice. He's in Kampala, Uganda. Let me know if you need his contact info.

if figure it can't be any tougher than the DIY, unguided foot hunt i did 2 months ago in Cameroon - so a non-Land Cruiser safari would not be a problem. thanks for the advice, guys. i have the time( being retired) but leaving again in 6 weeks after 2 previous 3 week jaunts to Africa might be a bit much for the missus. i am trying to stress the medical mission aspect but the wife ain't too thrilled.

I spent a week in March of this year with Philippe Chollet in his North Karamoja concession on the border of the beautiful Kidepo Game Park. He has a very nice tent camp, good staff, good food and will take good care of you. His email address is pchollet@me.com

update- because of the terrorist bomb threat yesterday at Entebbe airport, the trip has been cancelled or at least postponed indefinitely. there were a number of high school and college kids going along and the sponsors just felt it might not be safe for them( or anyone else). oh well, thanks for the advice guys. tu2
