Does anyone have a recommendation for a safari operator in the Limpopo region of RSA for a plains game hunt that offers the following…

Comfortable tented camp. (wife will be with me)
50K acres or larger property.
Some dangerous game around.
A chance at a better than average kudu.

The tented camp is not a requirement, just preferred, but for sure don’t want fancy lodge accommodations. The property size is also not a requirement, just a preference, the bigger the better.

We will plan to hunt for approx 8 days and then do some touring for a few days. Looking to make this trip in ’08 or ’09.

I welcome the advice of both hunters and booking agents. (I guess agents can be hunters too! Smiler)

Thanks, wyattd

Mr. Wyatt,

I've hunted with this outfit twice and think they are top of the top.

Won't hunt with them until July 2008, but after 3-4 years researching, I'm also going with cruiser safaris.

Look at their pkgs. I don't think you can beat the bang for the buck.

Adansonia Safaris

One of my friends brought his wife. She did not hunt but had an awesome time. I was sitting next to her on the flight home and she cried because she didn't want to leave.

Try Scott Van Zyl with SS Pro Safaris. No tented camps but he has access to about 17 different properties to hunt and they have taken several kudu over 60" this year.

www.ssprosafaris.co.za

I have hunted with them 3 time now.

Dear Sir,
Please ask sspro safaris to forward us some pictures of those "several" over 60" Kudu shot this year. I do believe it will grace our forum, and the foreign hunters would love to see so many exceptional animals from one outfit.
I have hunted with them 3 time now.

You might check out Stephen Barber of Xomaqua Lodge. They are right on the Limpopo with lots of land south of Botswana. Elephant roam through all the time. Leopard abound. They have exceptional kudu. They offer lodges as well as "Ox-wagon safaris" and tented camp safaris similar to the experience of the early settlers. Phone: +27-15-575-1055 or +27-82-550-5956. I think the website is: www.xomaqua.co.za

You can reach him at the SCI show in Reno as well.

Give JJ Hack's operation a try. He posts here and I've never heard a negative comment about his operation. I've hunted with him twice in the Limpopo area and both trips were great. Several others who post here have also hunted with JJ and everyone has had an enjoyable and successful hunt. Here's his website.

Check his website, I know that there is one posted there, under Hunting then 2007 and there is another one I know somewhere under 2005. I know there a few others but I am not sure where the pictures are at on his website.

Sorry I mispoke when I said this year, I meant to just say taken several kudu over 60".

Have done two safaris with BushAfricaSafaris located near Ellisras, fixed camp, very comfortable, good vehicles, top notch food, excellent PHs, run by Schalk Van Heedren
www.bushafricasafaris.co.za
Went in May of 2004 and May of 2007. We hunted an assortment of properties and had excellent results. FYI Kudu range from 52" to over 60", and Schalk is very tough on when a Kudu bull is shootable, in fact he's tough on what you shoot, period. I concur with Rug, the Limpopo is great. I'm going back too!

Bobbyhansensafaris.com...............highly recommended and the camp is grass thatched huts...not tents. Bobby and Vanessa run a great operation. I was there last year prior to going on to Zim.

I've hunted with these folks twice.

http://www.huntleysafari.co.za/

Outstanding family run outfit. I'd go again any time. Huntley and most of his family are PHs, facilities were great and good game every where.

I've not hunted with them, but several of my hunting friends have hunted with Schalk Van Heedren at Bush Africa Safaris and had wonderful experiences also.

I'd be inclined to use either if I was returning to that area.

Good luck and have fun.

Mike
