http://www.humanesociety.org/n...ing-poll-120517.html December 5, 2017 New Poll: Vast Majority of Americans Oppose Elephant and Lion Trophy Hunting Bipartisan Support for President Trump’s Call to Halt Trophy Imports from Africa into U.S. Media Contact: Kirsten Peek: 301-548-7793, kpeek@humanesociety.org Just two weeks after President Trump described wildlife trophy hunting as a “horror show,” a new nationwide survey of the American electorate reveals that an overwhelming number of Americans of all political persuasions agree with him, especially Republicans. Americans in every demographic group and both major political parties demonstrate a deep dislike of trophy hunting, and there is negligible support for allowing trophies parts from elephants and lions to come into the country. The survey showed that voters, by a more than five to one margin, oppose allowing American trophy hunters to import into the U.S. the parts of elephants and lions they kill in Africa, with 78 percent opposing and 15 percent supporting the imports. Those trophy imports are opposed by 76 percent of Republicans, 84 percent of Democrats, and 75 percent of non-partisan voters. More broadly, 69 percent of Americans say they oppose trophy hunting, including 79 percent of Democrats, 61 percent of Republicans, and 67 percent of non-partisan voters. Results followed the recent global backlash against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) announcement that elephant and lion trophy imports from Zimbabwe and Zambia would be permitted into the U.S. On November 17th, President Trump and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke announced that the USFWS decision to permit imports of elephant and lion trophies was placed on hold pending further review. The survey found that a majority of Americans support this decision by the President, with the strongest support coming from Republicans (72 support to 19 oppose) and conservatives (64 support to 24 oppose) but also pluralities of Democrats (48 support to 35 oppose) and liberals (49 support to 28 oppose) backing the President on trophy hunting. One claim of pro-trophy hunting advocates is that trophy hunters provide much needed revenue for Africans living in economically depressed regions and that the need for revenue outweighs the need to preserve wildlife populations. The survey showed that 78 percent of American disagree with this claim, including 75 percent of Republicans and 83 percent of Democrats. “These polling results demonstrate that Americans of all political persuasions oppose trophy hunting by massive margins,” said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States. “Republicans are most aligned with President Trump’s views that trophy hunting is a ‘horror show,’ but Democrats and Independents back him on this, too.” Editorial boards throughout the nation have called on President Trump to ban imports of lion and elephant trophies. So did conservative pundits, including Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage, and Mark Levin. Wildlife watching revenues dwarf the dollars generated by trophy hunting. Kenya banned all trophy hunting in 1977, and Botswana outlawed all trophy hunting in 2014. The survey of 3,011 registered voters was conducted by the Remington Research Group from December 2 – December 3, 2017. The survey was weighted to match expected turnout demographics for the 2018 General Election. Margin of Error is +/-2.2% with a 95% level of confidence. The survey results can be viewed here. Of course. The results reflect the current social and main stream media news. People believe anything currently being jammed down their throats by Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, etc. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. Indeed. The vast majority of Americans are "educated" in public indoctrination centers, aka schools. Take that for what it's worth. _____________________ A successful man is one who earns more money than his wife can spend.

Who conducted the poll? Who was contacted? How were the questions phrased? The questions were inflammatory and biased. Who handled the statistics? Hillary was supposed to win in a landslide also. Jeff

Jeff, Click on the link in my second post. It has the questions asked, political affiliation, race, sex, age group, etc. Kathi kathi@wildtravel.net 708-425-3552 "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page."

But those who don't could not care less if other do. The unfortunate part is that American politics have become a polling contest or popularity contest. If a politician has 2.5 million constituents in his district, even if 100% of the Elephant and lion hunters of America were in his or her district, he would still vote against the practice. It simply about votes and being re-elected. They are gutless individuals with no soul. They only adhere to the wishes of the prevailing wind and seek re-election at any and all cost. “One claim of pro-trophy hunting advocates is that trophy hunters provide much needed revenue for Africans living in economically depressed regions and that the need for revenue outweighs the need to preserve wildlife.” No hunter I know “claims” this. It’s a false premise, just like the rest of the poll. We can’t let anti-hunters get away with falsely insisting that hunters are not conservationists, and framing poll questions like these that take that as a given. GIGO. Nonetheless hunting groups have some work to do. I found it interesting that the young age group was a bit less biased than the over 70 crowd. I would have thought it the other way around, even with biases.

Oooh wow! A "vast majority"! The only thing certain here is that they had to have surveyed at least 100 of their cocktail party circuit lackeys to have come up with these figures.

I fail to see the relavance of thisvto the poll. What is relavant is the samle population. I wonder if any hunters were polled?

The poll is garbage.... It went to a deeply biased demographic to begin with and it's incredible easy to manipulate results by the wording of questions. The Humane Sociey constituents are not exactly a fair sampling. If SCI did a poll and sent to members the numbers would be reversed strongly

To get a "Real Time" idea, some group that has no bias one way or the other, would have to do a poll where the populace in general would be able to respond. The Humane Society or SCI neither can or will attempt that. Even the rocks don't last forever.

It would be interesting where to subdivide the population as to rural and big city. I could conduct a poll in NYC and get totally different results then the same poll conducted in Green Bay WI. According to polls Hillary won. BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

BH63, I believe "most" rank and file American, deer and elk hunters share that feeling. As I have stated for years, it's simply all about numbers. There are something like 10 million whitetail hunters in America. Total Elephant and Lion hunters are something under 10,000. We missed the battle over public image on this one. Not blaming anyone, it just happened so fast, the rank and file made their minds up before we knew what was happening. Bad news travels fast, as does Social Media. Formerly "Nganga"
