Having read and contributed to Ivan's good post about encouraging new hunters got me thinking about the ladies in my life that I've introduced to hunting.

I think it's great that folks like Long Grass and She Safari have clothing products specifically designed for the women.

Having said that, while I've seen some rifles designed with youth or pink stocks, I've yet seen a factory-made DG rifle dedicated to a female Africaphile.

I think I'm right in believing that when a guy takes a lady hunting, the more his sweetie or daughter realizes that we guys really want them to enjoy the the experience, they are more receptive to learning and loving the sport.

Then, too, nothing is much worse in introducing anyone to hunting is to have equipment that is unsuited for the particular individual, i.e., poorly fitting stock, a rifle with too much recoil or scope that will bite a pretty face in the eye.

So... here's what I did for my daughter's first DG hunt that we'll be taking at Matetsi 3 this summer.

I bought a Whitworth .375 H&H here on Classified (from harms, I think?). It already had a Cerakote applied and a synthetic stock (B&C?) which I had cut down to 13" l.o.p., pillar bedded the action and glassed where appropriate, then put a quality recoil pad on it. The barrel was cut to 20" and a fiber optic front sight replaced the original. The orginal express sights were retained but I had a gold line leading to the "v" installed. A barrel band was a must, of course and a 3-position Model 70-type safety replaced the sliding original one. I also put on a Kahles 1-4x with a German 4 reticle with Warne 30mm QD rings. (Thank you Biebs!)

O.K., now I had something that fit my daughter and was not too heavy to carry, but was heavy to tame some of the recoil... but... She's a girl, of course! So I had a friend dip the stock in a pink camo pattern to make sure that this was her rifle for her safari!

I picked up the finished product today, and, by the way, as the 100 meter target shows, it shoots pretty darn well, too. (Thank you jjs for loading the ammo!) I think I know a certain college girl that'll spend some time shooting during spring break. Big Grin

Really nice job! the pink seems to be the ticket for getting the girls interested. I bought my neice a pink bow for her 13th birthday. I find that she shoots it very often and even shows it to classmates because of the fashion camo. Can't beat that for getting girls interested.

THANK YOU JUDGE

Mad I bought last year a .223 for my wife and 9 year old daughter after my daughter shot her first springbuck. Then they started nagging me they want a pink stock on it and as a good and great believer of woodstock I told them firstly there aint pink stocks in the world and hunters dont hunt with pink. Now my daughter was sitting on my lap when i read your story and man im in trouble now mum and daughter teamed up and told me(not asking)that they want a pink stock like your daughter.Thank you sir now i cant take that gun out on my hunting trips with friends.Vision this:First night around the fire me and my friends enjoying a great drink looking into the fire and some great steaks and everyone asking what rifle you had bring for the hunt.Remember when you ask that question you cant describe the rifle you have to go and collect it in the guncase and present it to the friends and tell your halfe best lies about how great your gun is shooting. Then here comes Luan 6'5 with big beard and presents a pink .223 MAN O MAN they will start getting me g strings and nighties and i will sleep alone they thinking i change sides.

Thanks judge you made my wifes and daughter day.
I think the gun look really cool and good luck to your daughter just dont tell anyone i said the gun look great please.

Luan

I got a couple of inquires about whether pink camo would scare game. I actually put the gun on my copy machine and made a black and white copy (as game animals supposedly see).

It looks like shades of gray and black so I think it will be just fine... that is, unless we run across any flamingos (or Don't Ask, Don't Tell P.H.'s, I guess).

Judge,

If you ever want to sell the rifle give me a call. I have two daughters who would love to own that rifle.
