Hello all, has anyone used Rose Worldwide Importing on the Africa side for their trophies? My family were in Namibia last summer for an amazing safari. I was contacted by my taxidermist in Namibia that everything was completed and ready for export and that an exporter would contact me. Rose Worldwide emailed me but they asked for my Passport, Drivers License, and Social security card. Is this practice customary and necessary?? I don’t want to be taken advantage of. I would appreciate any help and advice with the import/export process. Thanks in advance, ddj The best part of hunting and fishing was the thinking about going and the talking about it after you got back - Robert Ruark

Whooa! My scam antennae are twitching, I can't speak for American customs but I've never been asked for any of those documents importing trophies from Namibia or any where else into New Zealand. You pay their (ridiculously high) bill and the trophies arrive. Sounds very much like identity theft!

Exactly! Tell them to take a bloody HIKE! Only thing required for you to get your trophies are your hunt permits - which your PH must have - and your shipping address!

Thank you for the replies all. Can someone please explain to me how the import/export process should work? Also, is there an importer on the Us side who can help me with this process? I really appreciate all the help. ddj The best part of hunting and fishing was the thinking about going and the talking about it after you got back - Robert Ruark

Your best bet is talking to the people you have hunted with. They should know the right company to deal with.

My taxidermist made the contact with Rose Worldwide. I haven’t found many references or reviews of them. ddj The best part of hunting and fishing was the thinking about going and the talking about it after you got back - Robert Ruark

I imported trophies to NZ a couple of months ago from Namibia. Good service from kerstin@africanshippingservices.com

I am getting a chamois and tahr exported from NZ; the taxidermist shipping them asked for my passport number - not a big deal to me. My taxidermist in the US has dealt with the guy many times.

The request for the social security card would make me suspicious. I have been on a lot of safaris. I have never been asked for that.

I have had a lot of requests for passport number or copy of the passport. I’ve also (on the US side) had requests for drivers license info. I’ve also had SSN asked for by US government agencies with relation to importing things. I’ve not had DL or SSN from foreign companies requested.

Again thank you all. Can anyone recommend and exporter in Namibia? I’d prefer to us one that others here have experience with. Thanks ddj The best part of hunting and fishing was the thinking about going and the talking about it after you got back - Robert Ruark

In 2017 I used: Taxidermy Studio & Tannery Bahnhof Street 8 Otjiwarongo Namibia Email: christa@taxidermy-studio.com Ph: +264 67 30 2763 They were excellent to deal with, reasonably priced I thought at the time and securely packaged my trophies for shipment to New Zealand About 4 years later a friend of mine here also hunted Namibia. He was a bit shocked at his initial quote for shipping to NZ so I told him to try these guys, which he did. Said their quote was reasonable and he shipped through them. I'm happy to recommend this business. Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.
