Believe, Guy, that you might get in touch with Diggory Hadoke (dig@vintageguns.co.uk) whose website is www.vintageguns.co.uk. He posts regularly on doublgunshop.com and is a serious and, I believe, trusted and knowledgeable gun dealer. All who suggest a used English bolt gun in .375 H&H are right on and Dig can find, or perhaps has in inventory, something that might work that is less than and H&H-made rile. Best, Tim

+ 1 the Safari Express is a little on the heavy side, but it shoots like a Pussycat, has an additionally ( bedded! ) locking lug under the rear sight, and mine had a factory adjusted Trigger, that no Gunsmith ever will touch. Dig posts here as Smallbore occasionally. He is based in Ludlow and if I remember correctly may have something in stock from last week when I was there. Adam270 also has a range about 20 minutes away that you can try out the guns on and generally have some fun. Pm me if you want a phone number or anything like that. K

Check out Rifles, Inc. Lex Webernick builds some awesome rifles for a very competitive cost. He will be at DSC and SCI. He built me a 416 Rem that shoots less than 1MOA and a 22-250 that will drive nails. Have a 300 Win Mag on order. The 416 is suprisingly comfortable to shoot for a big bore. I would also look for a Whitworth, Not as bulky as a CZ. CRF action and mine shoots 1 1/4" groups at 200 yards. Hook em Horns

Thanks all - Lots of ideas to mull over. The UK police are very tricky when it comes to larger calibres. I already have on my Firearms Licence .22 plus a 22.250 a .243 and a 30.06. When it came to the .375 like any rifle in the UK you have to give reasons to justify owning it. I applied for use abroad, plus for hunting big forest Red Stag and Wild boar in the UK. Thus far I have had my approval granted only for use abroad, plus i will need to join an police approved rifle range in order to zero the rifle in this country. As it currently stands I can buy a rifle but am not permitted to buy any ammunition for it....

There should be a few ranges round London where the trade test their big guns. Marc @ Rigby's should be able to advise I'd imagine.

Might consider a older Browning Safari Grade. Watch out for one with salt wood. All in all very nice, dependable rifles. One issue is that their std LOP is 13.5" which may be a little short for some folks.

I would not be concerned about a Sako. As I type this, I'm looking at about a dozen of them. A major problem with some guns occurred in 2004. The problem was some defective stainless steel used in the barrel making process. To the best of my knowledge there have not been anymore problems. It was resolved albeit poorly by Beretta. When I get my NRA magazine, it surprises me how many ammo and firearms recalls occur yet this is the one that is always resurrected. If I remember correctly, Springfield just had one where their pistol would go full auto. Do a search on Remington 700 triggers and you will see some issues yet no one says don't buy a Remington. I just bought a Sako 308 and am looking for more. The new Arctos is very appealing although not available in 375.

I agree. The AV action is essentially the same as the L61. I have a Sako full-stocked carbine in .375 H&H Mag. on the AV action. Great little (and big) rifle. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
