I've had some heated arguments with USF&W over this issue. Don't count on it anytime soon. Mike ______________ DSC DRSS (again) SCI Life NRA Life Sables Life Mzuri IPHA "To be a Marine is enough."

Excuse my igronance on the issue of an animal being imported, but what is the reason/reasons that the US will not allow certain animals to be imported? TN River and the Mountain Man...

It is based on their classification as endangered, threatened etc. according to USF&W. The price of knowledge is great but the price of ignorance is even greater.

USFWS has decided in their infinite wisdom that they know more about the status of any given animal anywhere in the world than the host/range nation. same situation applies to Moz. ele. damn near every other country in the world allows properly licensed trophy elephants to imported from Moz. not the US- they know more than the people on the ground. if it wasn't such a bad joke it would be comical. cheetahs, polar bear, elephants - the list of bullshit goes on and on. I'm wondering if Romney and Ryan are elected, with Ryan being an avid hunter, maybe there might be a new direction given to the USFWS?

I would say the odds are low in any given year, but over time I am optimistic. John J Jackson did incredible work with the Wood Bison so you just never know!

Agreed, but it seems to me that the USFWS has taken a turn for the worse since Bush II left office. I also believe Ryan is a more committed bow hunter of big game than Bush II who is mainly a quail hunter. Seems to me that a friendly in the top or next to top spot can't be a negative compared to who is running the show now.

I have seen that very rarely is anything that is done undone by the government other than prohibition.

Really, seems like Leopard were not importable years ago, now they are. Zambiam Ivory was not importable just a couple of years ago. Now they are. We win some and we lose some but we can't stop fighting. I'm hoping that the fight may become easier with some support at the top instead of an outright adversary at the top. May not make a difference but then again ...

http://www.huntingreport.com/c...ion_force.cfm?id=300 Cheetah Numbers Increasing Written By John J. Jackson III, Conservation Force Chairman & President(posted October 2013) Dr. Laurie Marker reports in The State of the Cheetah 2013, that “[c]heetah populations in Namibia…have risen significantly since the Cheetah Conservation Fund began, and may have even doubled in size.” Of course, Laurie suggests it is because of the work of CCF, which no doubt has played a large part. We too think the drafting and implementation of the Cheetah National Action Plan and focus on the cheetah arising from the CITES hunting quota, the establishment of the Predator Committee with its regular meetings of stakeholders and scientists, and development of sustainable use in the communal conservancies have all played a part. The cheetah is secure in Namibia and the hunting community has played a role in that as well as the CCF.
