I am asking if anyone here knows exactly who controls/owns Matetsi Unit 1 hunting block. I have recieved an email from "Mabal’engwe Safaris" advertising hunts here and was wondering. Last year while in Dande area hunting it was mentioned that the person who controled unit 1 was on the list that Americans could not do business with.Just want some clarification as I have hunted there and would like to do so again but definitely want to be able to get my trophies back home. And yes I have sent an email to the company(Mabal’engwe Safaris) asking further questions. All information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Wesley

Sorry not an answer to your question, rather a historical statement.

HHK used to hunt Matetsi I, and I think they held it together with a Caucasian Zim partner (Davies? forget exact name?). For the final year of the lease (2006?), the two sides fell out with each other, and HHK had to cancel the hunts they had booked for Matetsi I. HHK moved onto a different Matetsi block (was it #5?). I don't know who made the cut for block #1, the Zim auctions are always pretty fraught with bids not paid, kick-backs and litigation, or so it would seem...

I have just returned yesterday from two months in Zimbabwe. Most of this was spent in Matetsi Unit 1 with clients.
Matetsi Unit 1 is owned by Rodger Madangure who is not own any list prohibiting Americans to work with. I had five clients back to back doing buffalo, sable, plains game etc. Let me know if you have any specifice questions I can answer for you.

This area is known for better than average sable. I was there last year for the month of September and saw sable over forty inches every other day. This year over two months I saw a lot less sable but attributed it to the fact that the game was more widely dispersed due to abundant water. We took two sable over the two months I was there, one being just under 46" and the other around 38". I will try to post photos once I get them downloaded to the computer.

Between the time I booked a unit 6 hunt and went,US State Department added the General's wife to the list of persona non grata....she visited in camp---I was only hunter....and was quite charming....I had no problems on import of my trophies but that was 7 or 8 years ago and Hillary may be tougher....
