There have been a couple of threads about the SCI convention but not the usual one of what we bought.

First of all I had a great time. I was able to see many old friends and meet some new folks. Other than food being so expensive in Vegas we really enjoyed being there. Katherine and I even went to the Grand Canyon after the convention and a Cirque du Soleil show one night.

Anyway I bought a new handle for my Tuff Pak. Yes the airlines can break anything.

We also bought a crocodile wallet and bracelet from Shayle Duckworth's family business, Pentolfe Leather. She was next to TCI's booth. The quality is impeccable, the designs are great, and most important it made Katherine very happy.

I booked a hunt with Cam Greig to the Congo for June of this year. Time to get in shape, start camping in a tent, and learn to be tough again. Should be an exciting adventure.

I also had a good time. Probably too good a time.

I didn't realize that Shayle was there separate from Mokore. That's nice to know.

Brought some bullets for the hunts.

Booked a 10 day Sitatunga hunt with Johnny DuPlooy in Zambia.

Also a 21 day hunt in Tanzania- Lion/Leopard/PG with Brian Van Blerk in the Selous.

Booked a little weekend Elk hunt on a ranch in Canada with the Hardesty's along with some friends.

And committed to hunting Bongo next year and Lord Derby the year after.

Yep, I am broke now.

I did not book anything but let my outfitter know that I will probably want to hunt buff or tuskless with them next year or the year after.
I bought a couple of books-Hunting the buffalo by Craig Boddington and Footsteps of an Ivory Hunter by Nyschens.
I also had my eye on a Red Ox carry on bag and a Boyt fleece vest.
I bought a nice baseball cap from Tag Safari.

I bought two books from Craig Boddington: Elephant and the one on Argentina.

Made the mistake of stopping by Holland's booth to drool. A friend who works there showed me the new book, so that was a hundred dollars. But, they gave me a copy of their hunting guide. Very nice hardbound book, and free of charge.

Anybody see the Saber Tooth full body mount next to John Sharps tent booth? That and the two huge Cape Buffalo bulls he had the mount for. I think it was the best show since they went back to Vegas.

I personally bought a couple of good knives i liked

I bought some very nice antique books for my collection by Selous

I bought a little bit of art and admired much more i wish i could buy

I looked at ( for the future) a couple of rifles such as the VC 500 and the CZ .458 Lott

The Capital Grille at the fashion show mall was fantastic. We went back a second time.

the show "Le Reve" at the Wynn was so good that if we had more time we would have gone back to see it again.

Being a Crossfitter I have endless respect for their physical ability to pull off even half of the gymnastic feats. Not very easy to hold a one arm handstand for anywhere near as long as I saw demonstrated in Le Reve. let alone doing it on a moving metal platform at nose bleed height above some water.

Funny what people notice but Joyce pointed out that for so many radically buff men and women in the show she saw one small Tat.

Hey Lavaca,
No! I saw that too and a true First Edition that was 3k! I politely said I truly appreciate the quality and rarity but i found two really nice copies a little later that were only $200 or so.
I have a bunch of Roosevelt and Hemingway First Editions but the Selous First is rare and very expensive!

There was a fairly nice buffet in Mandalay Bay near the casino area, along with a number of other restaurants. Took about 5-7 minutes to walk to from outside the convention. I paid $5 more than you did for your slice of pizza and cup of coffee and got everything imaginable to eat and drink, including some outstanding prime rib and some of the largest fresh shrimp that I have ever seen and eaten. And a nice soft booth to sit in and enjoy the scenery, all while taking a short break from the convention. We had lunch there two days in a row. They offered a discount to SCI convention attendees. It was not crowded at all. The other two days we ate at the food court and had sandwiches and soft drinks. It made the convention much more enjoyable. I never eat inside the convention unless I am forced to.

The Congo? Mikey, I am impressed. Definitely want to hear about that adventure when you get back.

Ever gonna get back to Dallas and hang with your favorite redneck buddies?

The newest book from Peter Flack on Bushbucks. I am stoked about the new book. This series of books he is doing on the spiral horn animals is off the scale superb. He has done Kudu, Eland, Bushbuck with Sitatunga coming out soon followed by Bongo.

You gotta get these books....
