Buyer beware!!

I’ve just returned from Eastern Cape, South Africa, where I had a contract for a 20-animal cull package. My contract limited me on 2 animals, Red Hartebeest and Waterbuck, but when I started my package, I was told I was also limited with Black and Blue Wildebeest contrary to my contract. During the hunt two animals were wounded and not collected, and I was charged double for both animals although there was nothing in the contract to say this would be the case. I and anyone I know has never heard of this happening before so anybody taking out a contract with Hunters Hill, you will probably find that the contract that has been signed isn’t worth the paper that it’s written on.

I did however find that all the staff at Hunters Hill were welcoming, professional and competent.

Very sad to hear this.

Charging double for wounded game??

You said you were charged, how was your payment setup?

On a normal hunt you pay for your daily rate in advance, and the animals at the end.

I'm guessing you were charged double on the wounded/non-recovered game due to loss of meat revenue for that animal and then the typical trophy fee.
Not good if you were not made aware of this policy until AFTER the fact.

You are probably right.

Still a bullshit argument and the outfit should be avoided.

Why pay if not in the contract???
Where did it say anything about the processing of the culled animals???
I would have refused to pay anymore as there weren’t any trophies involved and you didn’t shoot more than your permitted 20.

That is NOT the Hunters Hill I experienced in 2019??!! Just excellent and straight up. There were a number of British gatekeepers there on cull hunts. They were all a happy lot!!

Was this a hunt bought at auction?

I think it would help to see the contract. I know of the outfit, but have never had dealings with them.

By charged double do you mean the wounded animals counted double against your 20 animals?

I think he means if the animal was 1,000 Dollars, he had to pay 2,000 Dollars.

An awful way to run a business.

Sadly, I have seen this first hand from some farm boys pretending to be hunters in South Africa!

Really I think this is open to negotiation and pointing out the discrepancies. Paying double for a wounded and lost animal is alien to me. Better luck on your next safari.

I've hunted at Huntershill many times and have a lot of clients/friends who have had good experiences there. I'd be happy to look into this for you as I've never heard of such conduct by the company or their PH's. I sent my contact details to your PM's. Regards, LDK.

How much did you pay for the cull package? What was the cost for those wounded animals?

I have seen this in hunt offers before, where a double cost charged if an animal is wounded.

No idea why, but it is a very stupid way of turning people off hunting with you.

.

Best hunts that we have had, we never had a contract. Agreed what we wanted up front on phone or email, paid our deposits and off we went.

Either way, have also heard good things about Huntershill. Have also been on one or two farms where they charged extra on cull animals that were lost or poorly shot (guts or through the quarters). So a $ 150 springbok cost $ 300. Wouldn't break the bank.

Would also be interested in the contract and explanation as to why no blue and black wildis in the cull package.
