It seems that most nearby hotels are reporting they are already sold out . Prices are outrageous.

If you plan on going to Nashville in 2024, you might want to start making reservations now.

Only way I’m going to any SCI event is if I’m looking out the window of the lead B-52.

When we were looking at rooms last year in August/September room were in the $300 to $400 per night plus tax.

I was waiting on my wife surgery date before i booked our rooms.

Well when we learned that her surgery date for her knee replacement was the end of January, we made the executive decision to not travel this year.

Well that put us both in the same category, i had my knee replaced the end of November and her’s the end of January. She is in physical therapy and i just got kicked out of PT.

So, we are making plans for next year to either take in the DSC or SCI convention.

Enjoy, and i have been bidding on some hunts that i can take in 2024.

Enjoy, the convention. For the members who are taking it in.

But we’ve started to AirBNB and it works very well

I'm staying at the Embassy Suites about 4 miles out of town. $156.00 a night and a $12 Uber ride away...

I was going to drive up from where I am wintering in Florida but I can fly direct from Orlando for $400 instead of a 10hr drive...

Safe travels to everyone attending with Winter Storm Olive sweeping across the country. We may be having an ice storm here in Chicago.

Everyone complains and complains and then continues to reward those hotels.

What if several thousand normal attendees just boycotted the whole thing and then sent letters telling SCI and told them SK.

Based on your earlier comments, I will assume you do not like SCI so that sets the stage I guess..

Since SCI has no real control over what hotels charge for their rooms, I can only surmise your intent is to use hotel room prices as an excuse to boycott and destroy a major hunting convention..

Yeah.. don't think so...

We are going and prices seem reasonable
Of course like everything major, we made arrangements way in advance
Sometimes staying half hour to hour drive away and rent car is way cheaper then booking hotel in walking distance
And I like SCI and I don’t care for naysayers and people who try to discredit the show and overall the whole organization , they are all more then welcomed to stay home

This is the hotels . They set their hotel own prices . SCI has nothing to do with it.

To be fair , I have attended other business events in the same area. The hotels were expensive then as well.

In Vegas those would probably be $15 bucks!

I've traveled to Nashville for work for many years, it is one of the most expensive cities in American in terms of lodging. For SCI, I was able to get a two bedroom AirBnB condo in Downtown Nashville for a reasonable price.

I don't drink, but here's some information off of the internet:

The Average Price Of Vegas Drinks:
Domestic Beer: $7 – $10. Import Beer: $8 – $10. Mixed Drinks: $12 – $15.

Here's another from the internet:

How much is a beer in Las Vegas?
$6 draft beer. $8 wine by the glass. $7-$8 cocktails (depending on the drink)Feb 6, 2023

Vegas is not a favorite with some, I get it. Big Grin I've lived here for 40+ years and it's a great place, in spite of a few naysayers. World class entertainment, world class food, world class hotels, world class international airport, beautiful weather, no income state income tax, a convenient hub to four other major metropolitan areas: Phoenix, San Diego, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, and to five national parks, etc. etc. etc. Enjoy Nashville this week! tu2

I’ll be there this year for Friday & Saturday, staying at the Omni. My room is about $625-650 for the 2 nights.

I won’t be going to SCI next year as I’ll be packing for a Cameroon hunt that starts a few days after SCI.

When I got back to Dillingham AK on my return from my brown bear hunt in late September there was only restaurant open which was packed.. So I took my guide, outfitter and another guide out for burgers and beers. When our very cute waitress dropped off the bill I looked at it. Hamburgers were $19. I whispered (I thought) to my guide and said "The last time I paid $19 for a burger someone was taking their clothes off" She heard me, luaghed and said "It would cost you a lot more here!"

The hotels have adopted the airlines pricing model!! For big events, holidays and closer to booking date the higher the price!!

I hear the parking at the Convention hall is $50!!

SCI has had a great venue in Sin City with reasonable hotels and air from everywhere in the world, Great shopping for ladies and great shows!! Free parking at the Casinos....

Remember, our outfitters are paying these exorbitant prices too... and they end up on our tab in the future!!

I am beginning to wonder if the best of the best outfitters do attend these events anymore?? They are booked by return clients, and referrals. This is an expensive venue to see your old friends and clients!! ZOOM calls really work great these days... FREE!!

SCI doesn't screen exhibitors either!! I got badly screwed by a new Queen Charlottes fishing operator from a booking at SCI last year!!

New SCI CEO didn't respond to my complaint or my screening recommendation!!

Screening is easy- SCI membership for 5 years, AND ADD Sponsor requirement like DSC. 5 referrals by members of 5 years or more who have hunted or fished with applicant in the last 5 years.
2 written complaints, you're out.

I have been attending for more than 40 years!! I am worn out and would rather buy a new gun or go hunting or fishing than line the pockets of hotels and airlines!!

Remember, don’t believe everything you read on the internet! The Vegas convention hotels are a total ripoff. Try almost double the price for drinks; $20 a bottle of water in the room and $50 if you ‘disturb’ the contents in the minibar fridge. Nashville is way cheaper other than the hotels, try an Airbnb.

No shit! I got wacked $40.00 for two bottles of water last year..

I'll be happy if I never see Vegas again in my life - and I used to live there myself.. Vegas in the early 90's was a cool place and Lake Meade was an awesome fishery - now you need a parachute to launch a boat!

I'm thrilled SCI brought the convention into the heart of America!

No whining by me, BushPeter. I'm well versed in capitalism. Big Grin I'm not the one paying any exorbitant prices in Nashville this week. My simple point is, and was, that it happens everywhere. Human beings financially gouge other human beings whenever they can and it happens all of the time. There's not a single state where conventions are held or where other large activities occur that doesn't jack up prices when they see the hordes coming, or when they know that they have a captive audience. As an example have you ever been to Disneyland, Sea World, or Disney World or any other recreational mecca? What's a bottle of water there, or a meal? Carry on.

Scott: You're still welcome here anytime! rotflmo We can't help what the 1200 year drought is doing to the entire West. The states of Arizona and California, who are part of the lower basin states relative to the Colorado River Compact, are going to suffer as well, and they grow a significant amount of the nation's food. Nevada actually cut back their Colorado River use by 8% last year and we only get 330K acre feet from Lake Mead while California and Arizona get millions of acre feet. But, I digress. Vegas is still a cool place as shown by the numbers of people that come here day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year. By the way where did you live in Vegas and what did you do? Big Grin

I was always amazed at the constant water negotiations - Nevada should just close the tap LOL!

We lived in North Las Vegas - 1491 Tolkien Ave to be specific. My wife and I were both stationed at Nellis AFB and worked in Area 2 (weapons storage area) out by the racetrack. I primarily worked the bombing ranges (EOD). We loved living there for sure and still owned a house there when we retired out of Little Rock AFB but decided not to raise our kids in the NLV school system so we sold the home. The area had gone downhill anyway after the F117 left Tonopah all those GI owned homes became rentals...

Did consider moving out over the hump to Pahrump but momma put the stop to that LOL!

Before all the big hotels (the MGM opened the winter before we moved)and when Main Street was thriving it was a great town. We loved Willie & Joses in Sams Town..

I guess going back now is so much of a change that it hurts. I remember when gambling was the lifeblood of the city and the mob kept the city safe - now its clubbing and fancy stores that sell Gucci handbags and shoes with bums and homeless everywhere.. :-(

Yes, Vegas has changed since you were here! Approaching 2.5 million people in the Valley now. When we moved here in 1982, there was less than 500K. I think your wife was wise to not have you move 'over the hump to Pahrump', as that drive can be brutal. Living in NLV can be a rough experience if you end up in the wrong location. I also know somewhat about the Vegas mob. I clerked for a U.S. District Court Judge and we were directly involved in cases involving Tony 'the Antman' Spilotro, his brother Michael and other Las Vegas mobsters. Funny story: Most of the pretrial motions we reviewed and I wrote the legal opinions on were decided in favor of the government. One day, after I had finished clerking for the Judge, (I had taken a job with a civil law firm that was in the same building as Spilotro's legal counsel, Oscar Goodman-who I also personally knew), I was in the men's bathroom alone and in walked Tony Spilotro. He looked at me, smiled and said: "Hello Mr. Gourley!" Being alone in there and knowing that he'd killed at least two dozen people-mostly using a 22 lr pistol (one with a vice-screwed the vise on the guy's head until his head exploded), brought me back to reality. Of course, Tony and his brother Michael's brutal and unbelievable end came in a corn field in the late 80's just outside of Chicago. . . . .

I can conclusively say the show is not heading back to Nevada anytime soon.

Most everyone is happy, even very happy, over Nashville from almost every perspective.

Every exhibitor I spoke to is just killing it.

I forget the exact number of years but they have something like 8 or 9 years booked .

The response to Nashville has been incredibly positive.

I can conclusively say that "I won't be heading to Nashville anytime soon!!"

I just booked my Tanzania Safari with a well known outfitter, right from my easy chair, while he was visiting the Convention and offering SPECIALS at the event!!

He is pleased with the new Nashville location. He says the venue is smaller, you can walk it in one day, less exhibitors, and there are less distractions for visitors, so the ones attending are focused and buying hunts!! "It's Very Noisy" for those of us with shooters ears!!

My opinion, there is pent up demand from no hunting for the last two years... there is now a rush to book and get back in the bush...

I believe the exhibitor count is higher than ever - I noticed more outfitters that traditionally had a double booth or bigger had downsized, allowing for more exhibitors.

Every booth was busy and it sure looks like people are spending money.

I know I am LOL! Booked a non-exportable elephant and croc hunt with him for this May :-)
