I recently received an email from the SCI Foundation detailing the monies that they planned on spending for the conservation of the Asian Sheep Species. With that in mind, I wrote back to the SCI Foundation and asked them what they were spending on the African Lion Project in Africa. I received the attached list from Nelson Freeman, the Deputy Director of Government Affairs & Hunter Advocacy for SCI. In addition, Mr. Freeman stated that in 2011 over $270,000.00 of the SCI Foundation budget was spent on African Conservation projects. He also stated that in 2010 DSC spent $25,000 for a lion aging project in Zambia and that SCI doubles that amount each year on the project, which SCI has been supporting since 2007. He further said that DSC's other African conservation expense in 2010 was the Fredkin Conservation Fund for $8,000.00, which meant that DSC's total expenditure on African Conservation projects in 2010 was $33,000.00, or .95% of their overall budget. Just stating the facts as presented to me, and I am not trying to stir the pot, but wanted to present to you all what Nelson Freeman had provided to me. Mr. Freeman also stated that the funding for the attached African conservation projects over the past decade has been literally in the millions of dollars.

It really makes me wonder when you ask a simple question and the answer involves DSC.

I think it was the comparison in monies spent between the two organizations for African Wildlife Conservation. At least we now have a detailed list from SCI. Before we had nothing, and a lot of questions and conjecture as to what SCI spent monies on in relation to African Wildlife Conservation projects. Big Grin

I was not given that number. You might go ahead and send Mr. Freeman an email and ask him that specific question and see if he is willing to share that with you. His email address is: NFreeman@safariclub.org Big Grin
