Jan DumonFor all Land Rover Owners
I've owned both Land rover and Toyota hunting vehicles. The Landies seem to drive better in the loose sand ( dry river beds ) , but apart from that the Toyota ( land cruiser )is the best , hard working safari vehicle out there. The Japs do know how to build 'em , that's for sure. Admittedly the Landies do " look " the part. There's a good reason why we don't really see other manufacturers in our industry. They just don't last. Period.

Buy a ford over here and a Toyota across the pond.
Or buy both here, which is what I do and have the best of both worlds!

SteveGlAnyone here ever see the hunting vehicle that someone left stored at Tholo (in the Ghanzi)?

chuck375So if I was feeling masochistic, what year model should I be looking for. I'm looking for something under $10,000 that will need a bit of work. My 2001 Excursion isn't too nimble, though it's been good to me, and the critters have eaten some of the wiring, so I'm looking for a hunting / project vehicle ...

I'd probably be inclined to go for a Series 3 and (with your fuel prices) probably a V8 engine but of course, don't know your terrain or what you need to put in it (hnece no comment about wheelbase)....... I wouldn't rule out a Toyota, a Jeep or even a Ford etc without knowing those things.
You'll have far better spares availability for the latter vehicles there so I think you should at least consider them.
