A three day hunt for a White Lion!! That's like going fishing for Tuna in the supermarket. Talk about CANNED. For the $$ they're asking you could go on a real Lion hunt.

I expect it's come over from somewhere like the Botswana border and taken to killing native's cattle and/or possibly even started eating natives etc and the game dept need it killed asap.... Funny how that happens so often in RSA.

I'm assuming that's including hippo and croc.....although I'm not sure the croc is in the same league as the others for potential danger to the hunter.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I would assume the silencer on the rifle in the pic is used in order to not alarm the lions in the neighboring cages? I also like the pick of the live white lion looking up at the camera, poor bastard. Roll Eyes

I've been to a breeding facility that had an adult white male. He was absolutely magnificent but I could not help but feel a litte sad about the whole process of him being raised just to be shot.

Yeah I been to a "breeding facility" too...Free State.....place had hunting for PG but had breeding cages for White Lion, Lion, Leopard, Black Panther, Cerval....Owner wanted me to shoot his old past his prime Cape Eland which was quite nice but I was sick from looking at his cages and the place resembled a golf course....I think I could have held out some pellets and the Eland wud have come eat out of my hand...

Since Hippo kill more folks than any other animal in Africa and I understand Croc come in second, why should they not be considered DG and there be a Big Seven?

I don't have anything agains croc hunting I just don't see them as an iminent let alone likely threat to a hunter hunting them. I sure as hell can't say that about the other 6 animals mentioned!

Years ago, I visited a lion-breeding farm in what now is Mpumalanga where I was told a pair of white lions had just arrived from the USA. I wanted to see them, but the owner said they were "under quarantine."

She then took me to an enclosure that had three large "regular" males with thick, long manes. The pen was about 10 acres surrounded by an electric fence, but to my amazement she carefully reached between the wires and scratched the ears of each of the cats.

Her story was that she had raised them from the time they were cubs so her brother could "release them back into the wild."

I also visited a place in Mpumalanga that raised the white lions. While they did a lot of hunting for all sorts of animals there, they bred the white lions for viewing and sale. He has sold some to Steve Irwin we were told. No idea what happened to any of these that were sold. It certainly wouldn't be surprising if some got shot.

Is there a record of any white lions naturally occurring?

Can't see anything to laugh about really, just a sad indictment on some humanity who like to call themselves hunters.
For chr.... sake the perfectly ironed blouse, fashion shades and a f...ing suppressor.

Who's lining up to be the next f..kwit to shoot that tame domestic cat and worse still who's got their greedy paw out to take the money to do it.

Beautiful cat, If he was really tame would make a cool pet.

I guess when he comes running towards the "hunter" looking for his morning bowl of little friskies, it will suffice as a charge for story telling purposes.

Sad, very sad!

Brett, they are included in the Dangerous 7 due to their aggressiveness towards humans around their lair/water. It would be quite foolish to swim or get too close to the waters edge where large Croc's live. One of the most tense moments of my hunting career was last year when myself and a PH got into a small plastic boat and entered a Hippo/Croc infested river. I asked my PH why all the fiberglass patches on his boat. His reply: "Oh a Hippo tried to eat it one day." He said he did the back stroke all the way to the bank so he could keep an eye on the Hippo who was content to chomp the boat. It was an adventure to say the least and it kept me frosty the entire time we were in the water. And yes, I thought myself a fool after it was all over. But damn, what a rush!
