I just got back from the show.I saw Vegas for the first time.It is a different experience than the Reno show which I enjoyed very much.I have some regrets or things that I should have done to make my SCI-Vegas experience better-which I will try to do next year. Now for the show.
The highlight of the show for me was meeting Ralf Martini-the guy who build my custom Lott.We talked a bit of rifles,he asked me to try out a Heym express rifle-did so-nice rifle.Ralf had a pic taken of us together.Saw some AR and other guys who hung around the CMS booth.Saw the Hemingway rifle at the WR booth-nice rifle-looks life my Searcy but it is probably not as good Wink
Saw more people this time and -I thought less exhibitors than last year-but I am not that sure.I took a cab ride to see the strip.I was lucky to get a kind fellow from Vegas who gave me a history of it-like where Elvis played, the first Hotel ever built on the strip, the hotel Casino was filmed in,the fellow who stopped Trump from getting on the strip, the place to have breakfast at while you are in Vegas, two of the best hotels in the world,etc...Saw some H&H doubles at the H&H booth that were priced at around 200K but were left on the table for anyone to handle and lean over and spill coffee on-probably the same rifles that were there last year.Saw the high end painters galleries without one real hand painted piece to show.A lot of people around the Krieghoff booth but I could not believe the suggested retail price at almost 20K.Nice bar in front of the Luxor res desk-that was all that was nice about the Luxor.Tried to find the Giraffe bar on my final day but nobody I asked knew about it.I will return next year-the raffle girl was too pretty..I found people there a little too cold.
I also ran into a fellow I shared camp with on my first hunt.I was happy to see him and I enjoyed talking to him twice during the show.I liked the SCI folk-the people who worked at the show.Met a nice couple who hunted with CMS.

Additional comment. I really appreciated the fact that ALL attendees at SCI had name badges. This fact lead me to recognize a guy who I grew up with and had not heard from or seen for over 40 years. It also helped in visiting with folks met at earlier Shows and not have to stutter with their names and such. This was one major concern I had while attending DSC, nobody had a name badge except DSC members. Made for tough going identifying unknown AR members and others I was looking to find.

Larry,
+1 on the name badges, but the patrons names could have been as large font as the exhibitors. Harder for security, but easier for us.

+1 on the name badges - the are a godsend to exhibitors and visitors.

Tha Animal Artistry taxidermy was mind-blowing.

We had an awesome show. Despite it being a bit quiet on the first day with all the cancelled flights and the registration being upstairs - Thursday and Friday were very busy and then tapered-off a bit on Saturday.

Got to meet so many wonderful people and lots of AR members called-in to say hi and quite a lot of them are members who do not post and offered their support and thanks; for what I post here about SCI.

Oh - I meant to add that I thought the move-in and move-out was handled extremely well. The Freeman workers may not all be the friendliest bunch and who knows how much it costs to have SO many of them there - but they really do handle the dock organisation very well.

It was a pleasure to talk with Biebs; what a great guy!

At his and Idaho Sharpshooters requests I have posted their picture below.

I looked around for Shootaway, so I could offer to buy him a drink but unfortunately never met up with him.

really enjoyed the show overall. I was so tired at the end of each day I just went back to the room and slept!

Dallas was great and we were up 25% in Vegas from a year ago.
Wed. was thin due to weather and people being delayed. Each days traffic got better.
We seem to have sold fewer cases to foreign customers this year we think.
Amazing the folks that come by and tell us they have more than one of our cases and how much they like them. One guy in Dallas said he had four. I am glad but ...go figure.
The folks around our booth seem to have a good show to.
Man...it is a looooong walk anywhere we seemed to go and that includes the American Airlines gates at the airport. D11 is the last dead dog on that concourse.
Not sure a cot and sleeping bag in the booth wouldn't be a better option. My dogs were barking at the end of the day.
Good to see and visit with you that stopped by and said "Howdy."
See you all next year if the creeks don't rise.
Better tomorrows!

Thanks for the offer,npd345.I met only a few, most of which were too busy doing whatever it was they were doing.I will try to organize a dinner outing or two for next years show.Everyone who does not have a place to go is automatically invited and welcomed(I do have a small list of those that cant but I can count them in one hand-just kidding).I will make a list of interesting restaurants and probably take a vote.It will take us out to see the strip in the evening as well.If I cant get anyone to go I will probably just buy a ticket or two for the evening shows. You are welcome to join me next time in Vegas.Hopefully all goes well and we will be in Vegas again next year.

I looked around the Giraffe Grill Friday and Saturday thinking I might meet someone but that did not work out.

Perhaps the mentioned Giraffe "Bar" rather than "Grill" was the problem.

Also on the exhibit map it showed it in a different location than it actually was.

Despite our differences of opinion, on many issues, I would of enjoyed talking with you face to face and drinking a few cold ones.

maybe the badge thing is because nobody can go to SCI unless they are a member- at about $65-75 for membership.you can walk up to the door at DSC, pay $25( about 1/4 of daily admission to SCI)and go in- but no name tag. let's see. $25/day x4 days versus $75 to join and $100/day to attend- damn expensive name tag.....

Left my good camera in my room on the last day.... Roll Eyes.... took these few from the Animal Artistry display with my phone.

A few sheep...

California Bighorn ram and ewe

Two desert sheep rams....

some kind of sheep!! Big Grin

Duo of running mule deer...

Leopard & Ibis...

Now this is one of the coolest things I have ever seen - just a shame I couldnt get a better shot of it with a proper backdrop. It is a leopard crouching and leaping at 2 white ibis. The leopard is suspended by a wires through the reeds - awesome museum-quality piece...

Attacking lions...

Shit image - sorry....

Water buff - in the water....

Remounted Corey Knowlton buffalo, done by Animal Artistry. I had this mount in my booth. Opinions vary. Sure is different!

Oh - and my all-time favourite... I think this is the best taxidermy display I have ever seen. The hand-painted canvas backdrop was awesome...

spewing I didnt get a better wide shot.... I might be able to get some from elsewhere...

Lastly...

My wife and I just returned from 8 days in Vegas. We stayed at THE Hotel which was very nice. As usual the show was great! There is so much to see and do.

We usually don't attend the dinners but decided to attended Saturday night to see Chicago perform. It was outstanding. Those guys still do a great show.

We also took a helicopter ride over the Hoover Dam and into the Grand Canyon. We landed in the canyon and had wine and a picnic lunch. The views from the front seat of the helicopter were spectacular. It was probably the best $800 I ever spent.

We are already looking forward to next year.

Hey Matt, thanks for all the great photos. The ceiling lights make it difficult at best to do the photos their proper justice. You managed to pull off some good ones in spite. I took a few shots, but was not as successful. If anyone else has photos, especially of AR folks in action, please post up.

Viewing and studying the taxidermy at SCI is worth the price of admission on its own. This years display was outstanding.

OR (Option #2)

FWIW - At SCI I believe Larry at Midway USA foots the bill on the Badge Holders and he puts his companies name on it, and how much can a 3" x 4" inch piece of paper cost to put a name on? I am sure they could find "a lot" of folks willing to sponsor this endeavor. Again Duhhhh, don't need to be a marketing genius to figure this one out!! But I realize you would just rather badmouth SCI than actually come up with a "real" solution.

Larry: it is not a "simple fix" for name tags at DSC. As has been mentioned SCI requires membership to attend their convention (or have an exhibitor badge) and therefore has member information on file and can pre print tags for members who choose to pre register. DSC on the other hand does not have info on the many thousands of attendees who visit the DSC show. It would be a nightmare trying to have each and every one of the attendees register and collect a name tag. Also, some people do not like or want to wear a name tag or have their information entered into an organizations computer where they are not a member. You are correct in your assumption that Midway USA provides the tag holders, they do that and much more free of charge and are great supporters of DSC. I'm sure you saw many non-exhibitors at DSC wearing name tags, these are DSC volunteers, staff members, or attendees who have registered for one of the evening banquets, the life member breakfast, or the ladies luncheon. If you (or any other AR member) would like one of these tags you might come a day early next year and volunteer for a shift or two; you are welcome to do so and we would appreciate the help and would reward you with a name tag that will not only identify you but give you admission to all four days of the show.

This was our second SCI show attended in Vegas. we had a great time, I think my wife enjoyed it almost more than I did. They had tons of stuff for the ladies which made it most enjoyable for her.Got to see my good friends from Blaaukrantz in the Eastern Cape. I never found the Giraffe Grill which is my fault but would have enjoyed meeting some of the forum members.

Overall a great show and a good time.Narrowed my choices down for my next trip to Africa.

The taxidermist work was fantastic.

Hope to meet some of you good folks in the future.

You have the WRONG Larry, so I suppose your oil field patch mentality my be showing, huh Big Grin !! Maybe you should read the entire thread prior to making comments. No worries, I've got more azz than you've got teeth anyway. Smiler

When I was involved with SCI several years ago, I was never more unimpressed with a bunch of arrogant, egomaniacal, "look at me", nose in the air, stuffed shirt, prima donnas in my life. SCI and these types are a joke.

I"ll take the oilfield type over the SCI type any day of the week.
