I'm sure you will find a good camera shop in Reno that will be able to assist you. Ask the concierge at the hotel you will be staying at for advice.

If you want the best price you could buy it off the internet and have it shipped to an AR member who is heading to the show, and then have them hand it to you at the show.

I have found that the shops in casino towns like Reno usually have high prices because they cater to people who have just won some cash. But I could be wrong...

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

i think Jason has a good idea. order in advance and have it shipped to someone who will be attending. i will be working in the Game Trackers Africa booth for the whole show and would be happy to accept shipment at home and bring it to you if you would like. i am sure other AR members who are attending would also help. let me know. I would e-mail Doug of Camera Land, make the deal, and have him ship it to the Reno hotel in your name. He is an AR member, gr8fuldoug, who is posting a daily special right now in the classifieds.

Another vote for Doug. I've had great service from him and have recommended him to several of my co-workers. Worked better for me before the exchange rate went back in the toilet.

Check B&H Cameras at www.bhphotovideo.com. I am also thinking of buying that exact camera. They have a good deal for the 5D Mk II with the 24x105 F4L IS lense for $3500.00

I Have bought numerous items from this company and they have a good reputation and customer service. Good Luck!!!

BHPhoto gets my vote. Over USD 50 000 I have soent there and never a single camera or peice of equipment has been late. Often delivered within 3 days anywhere in the world and at the best courier prices I have ever seen.
5D MK 2 is great, but if you are looking for a good camera for shows then my vote goes to the G9 or S5 IS. Compact enough to be carried comfortably all over and with about the same versatility as the 5D with the 24-105
If you do go with the5D and lense you will however be very happy. I own both and can only sing their praises.
Good luck

there have been some reports of some difficulties in some functions as this is a new camera design. Most shooters are raving about the iso advantages better than the 50D.Posts on Fred Miranda forums have been mostly good.

Check out the last post by Canon's Paulo Dolina,head of customer service North America,on page 196 of this thread for a glitch;

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/board/2

click on 5d master thread a wopping 197 pages long!

100-400L is amazing for wildlife. You must get used to the push pull zoom. You also have to lock the lense or the slide will crash down if you tip the barrel down.

The Canon 5D MkII just started shipping to those that pre-ordered them when they were first announced. It is likely that if you ordered one today, it would be at least 2 or 3 months before your name would come to the top of the list.

If you are not dead set on getting the Canon and don't already have any Canon lenses, you might consider a Nikon D700 (I have one and love it) or the Sony A900. Both are also full frame and about the same price as the Canon 5d mkII.

With any of these cameras, the cost does not stop with the just the camera body, you need a lens or two which can be very expensive and a couple of 4 or 8Gb fast memory cards and I strongly suggest a second battery.

If you don't need the extra expense of the full frame sensor, then look at the Nikon D90 or the Canon 50D. Both are smaller and lighter than their full frame brothers. Also, given that these two are not full frame sensors, there are some very nice lenses made by Nikon and Canon specifically for the smaller sensors that give great performance at a lower price. The best all in one lens I have used is the Nikon 18-200mm VR (Vibration Reduction). Canon makes a similar lens with IS (Image Stabilization) that works well with their 50D. You can get these camera lens combos with memory cards and extra battery for less than the price of just the camera body of the 5D mkII, the D700, or the A900.

Canon is reporting that the backlog will be cleared by 2nd week in January. With the down turn in the economy and many potential purchasers filled out multiple requests at different suppliers; the list is not as long as thought.

Overall hard to beat that Canon L glass....

I forgot to add that mostly the backlog is a body only issue,as you can find kits around.
