If that's the same thing as 24hrcampfire -- Australia/Oz/big bores and African aren't equivalent forums. Never heard of it... _______________________

Hayleys Hop Is one of the test shoots at the Zim PH examinations. About 30% of us had been to Africa so we trialed it on the weekend but are not sure how the score/time marking is graded or what the pass mark is. Hopefully there are some experienced African hands or PH's (not out with clients) who visit here who can help explain the scoreing.

It has evolved... with time but now- as per the shooting test (one part of 4) 3 targets at 10,15 and 20m set in a fairly straight line but so all can be seen from one shooting position. Shooter starts with gun loaded with a max of three rounds and as normally carried- ie at the trail or on the sling and either chamber empty or loaded and on safe- candidates choice) On signal- engage targets furthest to nearest, reload, and re engage targets closest to furthest. 6" center scores five 8" middle scores either 3 or 4 depending on cal used (9,3 and .375 score 3) 10" outer scores 1 or 2 Rest of the target scores nothing Score divided by time. Need 1.25 or better to pass (ie full house score in 24 seconds) Record is 11 odd seconds with a bolt gun and 13 seconds with a double (non Ejector!!!!!) As originally started the 10m target was a 'babber' which poped up and down behind a 'client' (Usually a military fig !! humanoid target)- scoring targets were the standard Bianchi targets. Hits outside the kill zone used to score -2 and onlookers were encouraged to shout abuse at candidate to add to the dificulty of concentrating on shooting straight. When the shooting test had to be formalised and put on paper and approved by officialdom we had to drop the bober (because how could we tell if the bobber at the Bulawayo IPSC club was the same speed as the one from the Harare club I always borrowed and anyway harare had three bobbers that were different speeds...and the test needed to be 'the same' for everyone.

This statement seems to be supportive of a couple of my personal opinions. 1) That a double rifle will not be significantly slower than a bolt action over a course of multiple reloads, especially if the bolt action is single loaded after the initial magazine charge is emptied. 2) An extractor gun is no slower than an ejector gun in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. Thoughts, comments, disagreements?

Thank you Ganyana. Here is the shoot report. We had three targets to allow three shooters before going down range. http://forums.accuratereloadin...5621043/m/5231096371 We had the targets at 50,30 & 15. Scores were rather dismal and I think the quickest was around 24 seconds. Room for improvement with a few changes. It was a lot of fun .....
