Saeed & Don, I realize this thread is not germane to the forum, but this is where all of those that know me visit, so I would appreciate the latitude. Ladies and Gentlemen, after thirty years I've finally hug up my wings. Every time I utter the word "retired" my stomach hurts, but retired I am.The African Forum has always been a special place for me, sort of a home in the "ether" that is the internet. When I was deployed during OEF, this is where I came to unwind after a long day of flight ops. I've made a lot of friends here and yes an enemy or two, but AR still remains my favorite.

Anyhow, I'll be in Dallas next week for the Convention and if you see me, I'm buying !

jorge

PS: for those of you that are interested, my retirement ceremony is posted here: www.LaVikinga.com under "The General." j

Jorge,
I listened to Todd's remarks at your retirement ceremony. Each of us can only hope to have a career and live a life worthy of the words he spoke in your honor. Thank you for your long and distinguished service in defense of the USA. I can guarantee you will never buy me a drink but I look forward to the opportunity to buy one for you.
Best wishes in all your future endeavors.
Forrest

Jorge, not sure how it was in the Navy but the Army is a strange outfit, they make you drive with your lights on during the day, drive with your lights off at night & then they take your watch back when you retire -- Hooah

Don't sweat it, retirement from the military only lasts the rest of your life

Jorge,

Congratulations!!! Finally retired. Thank you, as so many have already said, for your years of service. Men like you make this country what it is and ensure the rest of us lumps have a spot like this to hang out and tell lies. I wish I'd be in Dallas to buy you a drink, but sadly I won't make it this year.

Here's to you and your lovely wife. May you and she live many more days in happiness and travel the world seeking game in wild places. Good luck to you in your new endeavor.

Jorge,

I retired from the USAF 18 years ago and I still miss the travel, unity, sense of belonging, dedication, and common purpose - as well as old comrades and friends.

Things are not the same "on the outside" in these areas; however, there are many pluses as a civilian. Not the least of which are no PCS every few years, alerts, funky schedules, etc. I'll be glad to share experiences and "war" or "sea" stories in Dallas if I see you.

Life is what you make of it and I'm sure that, like me, you'll miss some aspects of the military life but will also suceed and be happy in whatever new career you establish.

All the best for the future.

Oday

jorge, I watched the entire ceremony last night.

Our nation needs more men like you in military service - and more such men in general, for that matter.

But thirty years is a long time, and you have certainly earned your retirement.

All the best in your future endeavors.

Jorge-

Thank you for your service-- and congratulations!

Studies I've seen indicate that those who have enjoyed their careers tend to enjoy their retirements. Similar skills are required for both.

Blessings and enjoyment for this next phase!
