I just got word that Berry Style with Buffalo Range Safaris and several clients were involved in a fatal plane crash. Details are few at the moment but will update as I find out more.

Berry was a dedicated PH and a true friend.

RIP Brother

Barry Style was pilot of the Cessna 182, with four Finnish passengers.
Death toll was updated after original report.
All five souls aboard were lost.

According to link below, there may have been some catastrophic breakup in air,
and certainly when it hit the ground hard,
Friday morning in Zimbabwe, 11-23-2018.
They were flying from "Buffalo Range Airport in Chiredzi to Victoria Falls
when something catastrophic appears to have happened to his plane."

RIP. Airplanes do not just break apart for no reason. Interested in hearing about probable cause. Was weather a factor? Having been involved in aircraft accident investigation This is an all to familiar result from light plane accidents and why I shy away from air charters.

Condolences sounds like he was a good guy

Four Finns dead in Zimbabwe plane crash
November 23, 2018 Staff Reporter Headlines, Zimbabwe

MASVINGO– A small plane went down in Tokwane-Ngundu, Masvingo Province, on Friday morning killing five people including four tourists from Finland.

The Zimbabwean pilot of the Cessna 182 aircraft, who died in the crash, has been named as Barry Style.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe has sent accident investigators to the scene.

The plane crashed into a rocky outcrop and broke apart. So dismembered were the bodies of the five victims that first responders at the horrific scene initially thought they had three victims.

‘There were four Finnish citizens and their pilot in the plane, they all died,’ Sally Ward told AFP.

‘It was cloudy and they were trying to get above the clouds.’

The accident occurred near Renco, a gold mine on the outskirts of Masvingo, police spokesman Paul Nyathi said.

The accident occurred near Renco, a gold mine on the outskirts of Masvingo, police spokesman Paul Nyathi said.

According to ZimLive the passengers were flying from Buffalo Range Airport in Chiredzi to the country’s famous Victoria Falls.

The bodies were said to have been so badly destroyed in the crash that emergency services initially thought only three had died, it is claimed.

Investigators also found a Finnish identity card and a passport at the scene, police said.

Condolences to friends and family. Sad news for sure.

I thought a 182 seated the pilot and three passengers. With an extra passenger and the luggage for four passengers I wonder to what extent weight and balance were issues.

Tragedy nonetheless.

I think you may have something there Mike! It looks like they flew into a cloud full of rocks, and over weight would certainly hamper quick correction in flight direction, if they ever saw the kopi at all.

In any case the whole thig is a tragic thing and My condolences goes out to Barry's, and the

families of the other victims.

The 182 is a very good plane.

I have several hundred hours flying one here.

Looking at some of the reports regarding this accident, most signs point to pilot error.

Very sad to hear, and condolences to the family of those involved in this tragedy.

Hey Saeed,

Got a parachute on your Cessna 182?
Well worth the retrofit if you ever need one.
Priceless if you need one and don't have one.
But it sounds like it would have made no difference in this accident.

Very sad news indeed, may they all Rest In Peace.

This accident makes me reflect back on close calls I’ve experienced in Alaska and Canada, as well as friends I’ve lost in light plane crashes on hunting trips. I’m sure many others on this forum have also had more than their share of near mishaps and misadventures. In my experiences, weight and balance always contributed to the near catastrophes. Bad judgement was always involved. We simply got lucky, more than once.

Hopefully, this was not the case here.

The Cessna 182 is a four-seater but some have two optional child seats in the baggage area.

Hahahaha!

When I was flying this plane - it belonged to the Dubai Police - registration Police 001 - we did all sorts of utterly stupid things in it.

Luckily, someone up there decided our number was not up.

Even if parachutes were available then, I am sure we would not have put them on!

Very sad to hear. I first met the Styles clan in the Lowveld at an old waterhole/hotel called the Lion and the Elephant I believe back in the 90's. We were hunting the Lemco Ranch, now Bubye Conservancy and ran into them with their clients. They were great folks to tilt a beer with.

Thoughts and prayers to all involved, the Styles family and the families of the Finnish clients. Horrible tragedy.

For anyone who is not familiar with Barry Styles, there is a very good film with Barry being the PH, hunting with his client Mark Buchanan who chose to hunt exclusively with several double rifles of different chamberings.

Barry lead Mark to several very good trophies all taken with Marks double rifles.

Barry's father was instrumental in forming some of the earliest safari hunting in his area with Barry carrying on the business. It is a very good film, and is available DVD while my film is a VHS that I have had for some years.
