Hi Jorge; one of the best: Bubiana Conservancy. Located in the West Nicholson area. From the airport to camp, I believe we drove 3 hours and 45 minutes. Beautiful lodge overlooking the Bubi River, great food, scenery is some of the best in Zim with granite Kopje's and mountains surrounding lakes full of huge Bass and swarming with waterfowl. It is one of the best cat areas I've ever been in. I'm returning next year myself for Mr Spots and Sable. Question from a neophyte: "Why would adding Sable increase the daily rate?" Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong;

Peter, It's related to the animal's value. An operator on a property might only have 5 shootable bull sable on quota because they just don't usually occur in big numbers but might have 20 kudu so the sable cost quite a bit more to hunt because of their relative rarity. Thanks for answering Peter's question Mark Sable, being the "royal" of all plains game are always in high demand. Also, it requires some commitment to hunt Sable. It is the norm to pass up other PG in order not to disturb these wary antelopes that may be within hearing distance of shooting. Sable are not real cooperative when hunted. You may see good numbers of them, or just a few each day. But they don't stand around waiting for their picture to be taken as a rule. By the time you locate a trophy bull in the herd, get the sticks up and steady for the shot, they're on the run. Getting a good, clear shot takes patience, skill and for sure, luck. A Sable hunter may spend days hunting just one good bull, meanwhile passing up other trophy class game. Likewise, your PH is not making money when your not squeezing the trigger. Hope we've answered your question Peter. It's really hard to understand how the animal determines the daily rate except possibly in the case of 'Dangerous" game. You stay in the same camp,you eat the same food,you have the same staff,you use the same vehicles. you have the same PH and there are still only the same 24 hours in a day. Recovery of the game is no more difficult except in the case of Elephant, even Buffalo is no more difficult to transport than Eland. The rarer the animal is understandable justification for the increased trophy fee but don't BS that it 'causes' the daily rate to be more. That's just the outfitters desire to make more profit. Don't really blame him but don't try to justify it by any other means. It's no more difficult to hunt a Sable than it is to hunt a Kudu or Zebra. You drive and or walk and look until you see one then stalk and shoot it. Looking for a record book animals requires passing and looking more for any animal you hunt whether it be Sable or Duiker. This might make the required days more but in no way justifies the cost increase. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

The gent I hunt with charges the same daily PG rate for sable. He just has a 12 day minimun. He different rates for DG though leopard (650) Buffalo (850) then lion and elephant I think 1200 plus a 21 day min I think. jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

The Zim govt. requires a minimum bank deposit for each species in order to get an export permit. The fee for sable is a lot higher than other plains game...over 4 times as much compared to kudu or zebra, FIFTY times as much as for impala, even 2 1/2 times as much as for hippo and twice as much as for lioness. Sable have to generate a minimum of $2500 bank deposit to get the export permit. _______________________________

The most important item in the offer is it is not a bargin. I agree daily rate for Sable being more is just plain BS. If diffuculty of finding the trophy the hunter wanted were to be a factor then the daily rate could not be set until the end of the hunt. This past spring I hunted 7 days in RSA without finding a acceptable trophy of the species hunted ie Suni and Red Duiker. I accept the higher trophy fee (rarity) but the day rate was the same as if I had been looking for Impala, Blesbok etc.

What really gets me is how that works on leopard....they have to generate 10k on a leopard, 12k on bull ele and 15k on lion. That makes the leopard a virtual "bargain" as it is 4 times higher than sable but often the same daily rate and number of days as sable...and not much more if any higher TF than sable. So how come I don't have either one? _______________________________

That of course explains why the ANIMAL is worth more it does not explain why the cost is passed off as a higher daily rate. I understand the outfitter requires remuneration for his services and the state mandates some of those prices but lets be clear it COSTS no more to HUNT most animals no matter what they are. How an outfitter manages to stay in business in Zimbabwe is far beyond me with state mandates on exchange such as they are. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

I was recently in Zim on a Cape Buff, Leopard, Sable hunt. I was offered to hunt a Elephant at the same daily rate, just a trophy fee. I agree it cost no more a day to hunt a Elephant then a Sable. We saw them in the same area. It is funny that once you are in the bush, more animals become available, but daily rate does not change. But if you book in advance the fees can increase dramatically.

I just want to figure out how to hunt at the end of the season and get access to all of the animals the rest of you missed during the year...and do it at reduced rates. _______________________________
