While watching Tracks across Africa today, I saw an old friend I used to work in the Sporting Goods industry with. Randall Pence is now with Ruger firearms. I haven't seen Randall since the late 70s and had no idea he was with Ruger. I'm going to call Ruger tomorrow and see if I can locate him. He made some excellent shots on Kudu, Blue Wildebeast and Gemsbok. His favorite was always the No. 1 but he used a s/s black syn model 77 in .338 on the Kudu @ 350 yards. If you saw the show you couldn't miss his Tennessee accent  I believe it was his first trip to Africa. It will be good to speak with him again. Yeah Mac, we earned our name the Volunteer State from the War of 1812. Some of my ancestors were with ole Andy Jackson and many more fought with the Confederate Army of Tennessee and Lee's Army of Northern Virginia during the War between the States. Tennessee gave the most Confederate soldiers to the war than any other Southern State. You should read about Ike Shannon's (Confederate Sharpshooter from Goodlettsville, TN) reminisces in Confederate Veteran Magazine published in the early 1900's. Ike used an imported Whitworth target rifle to dispatch a number of Union Artillerymen at the battle of Franklin at extreme distance. Today when I dig (metal detecting) a Whitworth bullet I am astonished how accurate such a heavy bullet can be.
