Folks - Just thought I would pass on to the AR crowd some info on a new product I've been using for a couple of months, and I thought you guys might want to check it out too!

Several years ago I developed Tinnitus (constant ringing of the ear) in my left ear. Ever since I was looking for a good field aid to help prevent further damage to that ear, and my right ear as well. Along with some help with hearing while in the field, as the Tinnitus has definitely diminished the hearing ability in my left ear.

Tim Sparks owns Tactical Hearing, based in Utah. He's an avid hunter, shooter and an all-around great guy. I've been using his gear for several months now, and its been a big help. If you are looking for good hearing protection / performance, please check out his website for a full line-up of products at the following address www.tacticalhearing.com

Disclaimer: No - Tim does not pay me anything. I like his products, and thought some here on AR might too.

As someone who is already deaf as a post, I heartily recommend something like this! You DO NOT want to lose your hearing!

And if you already have tinnitis, you have already lost some hearing! It is a symptom, not a cause.

I am trying to figure out if I have it because I have shot so much or if it was because I have been married before.

No, marriage does not cause tinnitus, it causes deafness.

Closest to the muzzle on a right handed shooter.

Left ear tinnitus is pretty common for right handed shooters.
I use similar electronic " in ear " devices (ear inc.)that block out the
Shot blast before it gets into the ear.
It hasn't fixed the tinnitus , but will prevent it from getting worse.

Cheers

I have a set that I've been using for a few months now too and have had good results. There is a bit of a learning curve to using them to there full potential. I don't just use them for shooting but also around farm machinery, industrial machinery and as hearing aids when hunting my dogs.
So far I'm impressed. Very comfortable custom fit and a good range of audio adjustment. Worth the money.

Get a muzzle brake if your ears are not ringing yet!

Long time ago when I was 15, riding in the middle of an old Ford p/up with windows closed the guy on the right set his '06 off between our heads, both of us got severe powder burns to our faces. My ears have been ringing since. I'm 71 now. Damn long time to suffer from such stupidity.

Make sure anything you wear will shut down when the shot or noise of any kind happens before it hits your ear drums.

One more bit of advice: MUZZLE DOWN or get out and walk!!

I've had tinnitus for a long time and I'm 38. A lot of unprotected shooting (guns, guys) when I was much younger. It drives me crazy. I now religiously use the custom molded plugs, but without the electronics. I'm bad at losing things...maybe I'll step up one of these days.

I guess I'm the oddball here. I have it in my left ear yet I shoot left handed.
Reminds me of evening time when camping down by a creek in springtime, constant crickets.

Will,

It's already here. I have a friend who is damn near deaf due to Meniere's disease and he has a set that is Blue Tooth compatible with his I Phone. He justs shuts them off when he shoots and they act like plugs then turns them on for normal conversation. When the phone rings the blue tooth goes to his hearing aids and amplyfies it. Amazing technology.
