George and gents:
Today I received George's video on his elephant hunt. All I can say is absolutely fascinating!!!

Why do I say this?

!. Well, the video does not glorify the hunter. It is not one of those videos that put the hunter in the spot light.

2. The video shows Africa as it is and what is part of all hunting safaris. The people, women grinding corn, the bugs, the kids, the camp staff, etc.

3. It shows all parts of the safari including the safari vehicle, tracking, skinning, etc., without going over board and making some parts boring due to their excessive length.

4. The shot on the elephant was excellent. One shot and instantly down. George, you've come along way in your hunting and double rifle shooting.

5. The African people at the elephant skinning, cutting meat, the pleasant fact that the elephant will feed so many hungry and poor people, and the fighting over the meat, too, shows the good side of what hunters do.

So, George, while we have butted heads at times, I appreciate you sending me the video and it showed an excellent hunt and the quality of the video was also excellent and what all hunt videos should be.

Thanks Cal.I am glad you liked the video.I wish I could go back there soon and make another one.I tried to make a story or movie out of it instead of a holiday/vacation video.Next time I will try and do the same and choose a good area that has quality game,makes for a lot of walking and covering divers terrain also offering a challenge.I will practice my shooting and be in shape-that will make for a better video.Ray deserves a lot of credit as he is filming everything all the time and I guess he understands that you need a lot of footage to use to build a story.I was thinking of possibly doing a buff hunt in a good wild area where I stood a good chance of finding a nice big hard bossed dagga boy.Richard my PH would be searching and walking covering a lot of terrain...

Wow - It seems like I really missed out on seeing this one. Anyway, well done George - you really have come a long way. I know you are a lover of Searcy doubles like me - my Searcy sidelock rising bite .500NE is supposed to arrive today. I will post some photos in the double rifle section in a few days.

the chopper lump barrels option was just a bridge too far for me - it should still be pretty nice

Personally I'm impressed Cal had equipment that post dated 8mm in order to watch the video.

Prior to my first safari for buffalo, I bought a Mark Sullivan VHS tape. After watching it a couple of times, I came to the conclusions that:

a) the buff were being deliberately shot high on the shoulder to increase the likelihood of a charge.

b) I would never want to hunt with Mr. Sullivan, mainly because he winds up killing most of the buffalo (I like to kill my own animals)

c) buffalo are the most courageous and vindictive animals on earth.
